Hoot & Holler - Town Hall Meeting
Opening of Southwest Stageworks Winter Repertory Shows
Southwest Stageworks is thrilled to announce the opening of their winter repertory shows: “The Wolves” and “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)”, opening on Thursday, February 13th. Taking place in the Ida B. Wells Cosgrove Auditorium and Ida B. Wells Blackbox, located in classroom 108, These two contrasting shows are a perfect balance of hilarious satire and eye opening commentary.
Tickets are located on https://www.southweststageworks.com/online-ticket-sales.html with a $10 general admission.
Running side by side from February 13th to February 22nd, these polar opposite shows are beautifully unique in their own right. Pulitzer prize nominated show The Wolves by Sarah De Lappe dives into the struggles and successes of a high school girl’s soccer team. From the mundane annoyances to life altering incidents, this coming-of-age performance brings audiences through the emotional roller coaster of female adolescence.
And on the other side of the pond, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield is a hilarious parody on the famed poet, as a troupe of performers attempts to condense all 37 of the poet’s works with varying levels of a success that’ll leave even the most uptight Shakespearean Scholar rolling in laughter. From interpretive dance, slapstick comedy and immature(yet still hilarious) innuendos.
These two shows are recommended for an audience middle-school age and above, for mature language, innuendo, and intense content.

Applications are now open for FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council!
Do you know a young leader who is passionate about disaster preparedness and community resilience? Encourage them to join FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council (YPC). This is an opportunity for our students to make a difference and shape the future of emergency preparedness!
The YPC is a nationwide program that brings together young leaders who want to make a difference in their community and build valuable leadership skills. Council members serve for one year and collaborate on projects that promote emergency preparedness, participate in engaging discussions with FEMA leaders, and gain insight into careers in emergency management.
Students currently in grades 8 through 11 may apply. Applications can be submitted in either written or video format by March 3 on FEMA’s YPC application page.
FEMA is conducting an informational webinar Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m. ET. Register in advance on Zoom for government. The webinar will provide additional details about the YPC and answer questions.
Former national YPC member Georgia Bukata, who served on the national YPC from 2023-2024, shared how her experience had a positive impact on her life. “My time on the Youth Preparedness Council taught me invaluable skills that continue to shape my life today,” said Bukata. “Collaborating with diverse peers from across the country, I learned how to harness different strengths and perspectives to tackle complex projects. The YPC taught me how to work efficiently, communicate clearly, and adapt to new challenges—all skills that have been essential in my academic and volunteer work.” Bukata also shared how the experience shaped and inspired her to take action. “The YPC deepened my passion for emergency preparedness and public service,” she explained.” It inspired me to pursue opportunities like teaching a course on preparedness at Duke and to explore the intersection of health policy and community resilience. The connections I made (…) opened my eyes to the broader impact we can have in shaping future preparedness efforts.”
To learn more about the YPC, please visit the Youth Preparedness Council page on FEMA.gov.
