Faith Development for All Ages, October 2
UU Crafty Idea
Boo! 🎃👻 The spooky season has arrived, my little goblins and ghouls! And what better way to haunt your home than with a Chalice Pumpkin—a masterpiece of warmth and delight! 🎃✨ Carve that eerie yet elegant chalice, light it up, and let it cast its glow through the shadows of the night. When you’re done, I double dare you...no, I TRIPLE DOG DARE YOU... to post your creation on the LOUU Community Interest & Event FB Page. Muhaha! 🔮🕸️
Let the carving begin... if you dare! 😈
Last week our Chalice Children made their own chalice as they learned about its symbolic meaning to our faith. This week we continue to grow a sense of belonging by playing games that reinforce the people, places, and objects in the congregation, especially people who work for the congregation.
Last week our EPIC Kids constructed their covenant with each other & our community using Jenga blocks. This week we will explore how communities use the practice of reflection to help themselves grow and make changes if needed by participating in a "reflection" scavenger hunt and discussion.
Grown-ups can use this time to socialize, lend the HOME Team a hand, and/or have a group check-in with each other.
We encourage your family to join our faith development community and invite a friend! Add the new time to your calendar right now! 🙂

October's Worship Theme: Transformation
Transformation. We adapt to the changing world.
We covenant to collectively transform and grow spiritually and ethically. Openness to change is fundamental to our Unitarian and Universalist heritages, never complete and never perfect.
“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” —James Baldwin
This Sunday, October 6th
You're invited to join a drop-in discussion group facilitated by Tim Buckley and the JEDI Team. No pre-registration is required, and each session is open to all.
Our meetings begin with participants listening to an episode of the Cape Up podcast together, followed by a group discussion. This week's session will continue exploring the role of children in the Civil Rights Movement and transition into a discussion about the contributions of women to the movement.
As Jonathan Capehart shares in his podcast:
"The veterans of the Civil Rights Movement made history, but they want you to know something: They didn’t set out to be heroes or icons. Some are names you know, some aren’t — but all of them have stories that need to be told while they're still here to tell them."
This audio series offers reflections from these leaders and valuable lessons on how we can apply their legacy to today’s world. Come and be part of the conversation!

Roots & Leaves
Welcome to Roots to Leaves: Love at the Center! This season, we are partnering with UU Wellspring to offer an official companion podcast for their Love at the Center curriculum, focused on the core values of Unitarian Universalism: Justice, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Interdependence, and Generosity - with LOVE at the center of them all.
Throughout the season, our hosts will be speaking with UU faith leaders who helped build this new curriculum, exploring each of the values on their own and in tandem. These conversations are intended to serve as thought-provoking and accessible companions to Love at the Center, or a standalone resource for anyone looking to explore the core values of our faith.
In this episode, hosts Rev. Jude Geiger, Br. Zachary Stevens-Walter and Dr. Yvonne Garrett are joined by Linnea Nelson, Executive Director of UU Wellspring. They discuss the implications of transitioning from the language of "principles" to "shared values," the challenges and opportunities of putting "love at the center" into practice, and how the emphasis on love within Unitarian Universalism provides common ground with other faiths and belief systems.
