Meadowbrook News
May 24, 2024
From Principal Natalie
Good afternoon Meadowbrook,
Here we are at the end of May; where has the time gone?! Spring is often a busy season for families - school events, band/orchestra concerts, sporting events and end of season/year celebrations - on top of wrapping up a school year and making summer arrangements. In this flurry of activity, it is important to not forget to stop and pause. Our children are tired, emotional, and need us! Please talk to your children about the feelings they have about the end of the school year, help them soak up the moments of joy, and make time for down time.
I hope that this holiday weekend provides you with an opportunity to slow down and be present for one another. Remember there is no school on Monday, May 29th in honor of Memorial Day. Thank you to those who have or continue to serve our country and we will hold those who have died in service in our hearts.
In partnership,
Natalie
P.S. A friendly reminder to complete the transportation registration form regarding your child's transportation needs for the upcoming school year!
Don't miss the bus! Registration required for bussing next year!
Today is the last day! If you have not registered for transportation for 2024-25 school year, today is your last day to do it. It is very important that you complete and submit this form because we will only provide transportation to those who indicate they need it.
If you have not received the survey or you need help completing it, there will be a helpline you can call next week to get assistance. Families can call the helpline from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28; Wednesday, May 29; and Thursday, May 30; and staff will be available to help access or complete the survey. Information on how to call this helpline will be posted on our website Monday, May 27.
Run Meadowbrook Run
Clothing Drive
Starting on Monday, May 20, until May 31, there will be donation boxes in Meadowbrook entrances A and L. We are collecting donations of any kids summer clothes you don't want anymore! These clothes will then go directly into the hands of kids in need of some comfortable summer apparel! If you have anything to give, you can bring them to the marked boxes outside of the front office and in the doors off of the back parking lot, next to the playground.
Thank you,
Josie Schroeder, Lydia Michals, Sadie Steckler, and Elin Larson

Literacy
While there may only be a few weeks left of the school year, that doesn’t mean the end of literacy learning. There are a TON of great opportunities right here in Hopkins and across the metro area for your family to take advantage of this summer. While the information below is not comprehensive, it should get you a great start in filling the summer with great books and activities. The dollar spot at Target and the school supply section of dollar stores have lots of notebooks to choose from. Encourage your student to journal, keep a list of books read (or desire to be read), and to color, sketch, and record words, memories, and other things they find interesting over the summer. Or, start a neighborhood book club and read or listen to a chosen book and then have a backyard/driveway movie watching to compare them. (See some recommended books/movies below.) Happy reading and writing!

Counselors' Corner
Greetings Caregivers!
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to provide some important information regarding online safety for elementary school students.
With the increasing access to the internet, children are being exposed to more adult content at an alarming rate. It is crucial for parents to set up parental controls on devices and routinely check their children's phones and other devices to safeguard them from harmful material. These measures are essential in safeguarding them from potential online risks.
For further guidance on this topic, I have included links that provide useful information and resources to support you in promoting online safety for your child.

Warm regards,

From Nurse Karen
Hello Meadowbrook Families:
As we quickly approach the end of the year, I would like to ask any family who has provided ANY type of medication to the health office for their student that they need to be picked up at the health office the last week of school. Any medications that are not picked up will be disposed of per Hopkins and County policy. I do not keep medications here over the summer. I cannot send medications home with students.
Another reminder for families over the summer. If your child has an allergy action plan or asthma action plan, now is the time to make an appointment for a summer checkup. Asthma and emergency medications need to be brought to school in the fall with a current emergency and asthma action plan signed by your child's caregiver.
If your child takes prescription medications in the Health Office on a daily basis, please bring current documentation by the prescribing physician when bringing in the student's medications in the fall.
Thank you for your partnership this year!

We are so grateful to the hundreds of families who joined us at North Middle School to run, jump, climb, and play. Thank you, also, to all of you who ordered Gratitude Gifts this spring. We will be delivering hundreds of cards and loaves of bread next week, as well as offering a bread spread in each staff room, to celebrate all the teachers and staff who support our Hopkins schools and students.
