Overview
Data and assessment literacy is a core part of the modern educator's knowledge and skill set. Based on the Michigan Assessment Consortium's Assessment Literacy Standards, this series will raise awareness of skillful practices in creating assessments and using a variety of student assessment data to improve student learning.
Participants will also learn to read interpret a variety of data sources, AND evaluate the effectiveness of teaching strategies and programs, in order to create an optimal learning environment for all students.
We strongly encourage teams of educators (including building and district leaders) from schools/districts to register, as a group will have opportunities to collaboratively problem solve practical solutions for their local students.
Goals
Using the Michigan Assessment Consortium's Framework for Assessment Literacy Standards, the series will build teacher capacity to:
- Use assessment data within appropriate, ethical, and legal guidelines.
- Use data management systems to access and analyze data
- Implement the 5-step process for assessment development: Plan, Develop, Review & Critique, Field Test and Review & Revise
- Select and use various assessment methods appropriate to assessment purposes and learning targets
- Provide Timely, descriptive and actionable feedback to students based on assessment results
- Support the student use of assessment feedback to improve attitudes, aspirations, mindsets and achievement
- Use assessment results to appropriately modify instruction to improve student achievement
- Accurately determine and communicate levels of proficiency
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardian, other teachers, administrators and community stakeholders about student learning
Each day of the series will focus on a theme to which professional learning will be grouped about the above standards.
