We also want our students to know how to respond when someone greets them. We have 4 greetings and responses that we are practicing school wide. Columbus Metropolitan Library is celebrating Black History Month with engaging and interactive programs at many Columbus branch locations. Programming includes sessions with folktales and storytelling, drumming, dance, beauty and hair tutorials, an education fair, and more! See the link below for a full list of activities.

The Community Music School (CMS) at The Ohio State University School of Music is excited to launch the NEW Infant Music Class — a music program specifically designed for Latinx families with children aged 0 to 36 months.

ARISE (ARTs through Intergenerational Social Engagement) is a five-week intergenerational program focused on storytelling through the fine arts. The ARISE Scholars Program will provide teens who are currently in grades 9-12 with the opportunity to earn service hours, to volunteer in the community, and to experience how the fine arts can be used as a tool for wellness. The central theme of ARISE is storytelling. Throughout the program, they will explore how theatre, music, dance, and the visual arts can help us share our stories with others. There is no cost to participate, although scholars will be responsible for their own transportation. Each student who completes the program will earn a $100 travel stipend. Questions? January begins the lottery season for Columbus City Schools. A few notes regarding the lottery process:

• 5th grade student automatically have a reservation at World Languages Middle School (WLMS). However, parents must accept this reservation to keep their spot at WLMS. Reservation applications will be available on January 6, 2025 and must be submitted by January 31, 2025 via the School Choice link in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
• Return to homeschool - all of our families will receive a notice about returning to homeschool. This comes each year to our families as we are a full lottery school. You have the option to return to your school of address. If you wish to stay at CSIA you do not need to do anything. The request will be available for submission beginning on January 6, 2025 and must be submitted via the School Choice link in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal by March 21, 2025.
• PreK families - You must apply through the lottery system to attend CSIA for kindergarten. On-time lottery applications accepted via the Parent Portal for the lottery draw, Monday, February 3, 2025 through Monday, March 31, 2025.

The Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA) is the state summative test that districts administer to students identified as English learners in grades K-12 to determine an English learner's progress to English language proficiency and readiness to exit from the English language development program.

Dental sealant placements will be conducted in the art room for 2nd graders and some 3rd graders. Dental sealants are thin, plastic coatings that are bonded to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars and premolars). Sealants are very good at preventing tooth decay (cavities). They work very well on the back teeth. These teeth contain more hard-to-reach pits and grooves, where food debris and bacteria can settle.

The class with the highest percentage signed up by Friday with a pledge page will earn a snack break, sponsored by the PTO. 80% of what is earned goes back to our school.

The CKC program aims to help pregnant people and children apply for Medicaid or CHIP insurance. Medicaid and CHIP offer free or low-cost health insurance for kids and teens. If you have uninsured children or are pregnant, you can get free assistance to apply or reapply for Medicaid in Ohio. The PTO sponsors School Events, Class Activities, Teacher Appreciation Week, provides food for Parent Teacher Conferences and so much more. They have fundraisers throughout the year in order to pay for these events but are always accepting donations.

2. Recess Duty would mean reminding students to follow the rules, playing with students and ensuring all students are being safe while at recess.
