Student Guide to LiveLesson - A Good Place to Start
If you have not already, please take a few minutes to review the student LiveLesson guide, which may answer some of your questions about using this new LiveLesson program.
Welcome to LiveLesson with Class!
Thank you all for your patience with us while we get our feet under us with the new LiveLesson program: Class. We continue to learn how to best use the program and support our staff, students, and families with troubleshooting the program.
Why Are We Using Class for LiveLesson?
The prior LiveLesson program, Adobe Connect, is being decommissioned by Adobe so Connections Academy needed to get a new program for LiveLesson. Class for Zoom was the program that was most engaging based on research and practice within some pilot schools. Connections Academy will continue to provide guidance and support to all of our learning community throughout the year.
Guidelines on Downloading and Installing the Class App
IMPORTANT NOTE: Only Windows-based and some Mac OS computers can run the Class App. Chromebooks, tablets, and phones use Class on the web.
How do I access LiveLesson?
The best way to access LiveLesson is to click on the LiveLesson link in the event on your Planner. Some teachers host LiveLessons with others, so clicking on the link in the event will get you to the right room in the event that your teacher is not the one whose room is being used.
What is the preferred method of accessing LiveLesson?
It is highly recommended that you use the application, not the web, version of Class, as this allows students to access the program the best. If you need to use the web version, Chrome and Edge are the best browsers to use. If you are on a PC or tablet, please download the Class App for best access to the program. If you have any trouble downloading or installing the Class app, please contact Family Tech Support at 800-382-6010.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have a Chromebook, you must use the web version (the app version does not work for Chromebooks at this time).
The program takes a few moments to load
Once you click the button to access LiveLesson, it does take a few moments for the program to load. Please be patient while it loads up and your teacher grants you access.
Are you on a Chromebook or a Mac?
Here is some important information regarding what you need to do if you are using a Chromebook or a Mac. You must access the web version through the Chrome browser.
Chromebook - the operating system (OS) will NOT allow you to download the Class application. You must access Class from the Web via your Chrome browser.
Mac - to download the Class app, you must be on iOS 11 or later. If you cannot download the Class app, download Chrome and access Class from the Web via the Chrome browser.
Setting Up LiveLesson
Can't Hear or Speak?
Click on the arrow next to "unmute" and make sure that the correct speakers and microphone are selected. This solves most audio issues.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are unable to "unmute" yourself, it is likely that the teacher has turned off that feature.
Camera on? Blur your background.
Click on the arrow next to "video" and select "blur my background" to make your background less visible.
Camera settings
You can turn on and off your own camera using the "Start Video" button. If you want other students to see your video, select Gallery View >> Privacy Mode >> Off. If you don't want other students to see your video, just your teacher, select Gallery View >> Privacy Mode >> On.
Important Notes about Cameras:
Student videos are not recorded on the Recording unless your student is speaking. The Recording settings show the videos of active speakers (most often the teacher) only.
Please make sure that your background and dress are appropriate for being on camera. If it is a question of appropriateness, please have your camera off.
Camera Privacy Options
Privacy Mode ON = only the teacher can see your video and it will not be in the recording
Privacy Mode OFF = all students and teachers can see your video and it will be in the recording
Having trouble finding the shared screen that your teacher is presenting?
Select the "Screen Share" tab at the top of the screen. This is also how you can access the different tools your teacher may direct you to, including Nearpod, videos, polls, or other.
Is the screen black?
You may need to clear your cache and cookies before logging back into the LiveLesson. If that does not work, please call Family Tech Support at 800-382-6010.
Using the Chat
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you find that you are not able to chat, it is likely that your teacher has turned that feature off for the moment. They will let you know how to communicate with them and with other students if this is the case.
Want Closed Captioning?
If you would like Closed Captioning, click on More >> Show Captions. To adjust the settings, click on the arrow next to "Show Captions" >> change the language.
Need the latest version of Class or need to download the Class app?
When you click on your teacher's LiveLesson link, you'll be taken to this screen. If you need to download or update Class, click on the circled button.
IMPORTANT NOTE: the Friday following the last Thursday of the month is when Class pushes out the latest application update. If you need to download a new version of the app, we'll make sure to let you know.
