CC Campus Happenings January 2021

Happy January!


We are into the New Year with a hop, skip and jump! Great things are happening on the CC Campus. Most exciting is the move of Valley School to the CC Campus. With all things going our way, the New Valley School should be open in February. This blending of both worlds will create opportunities for all of the CC Campus kids, academically as well as career exploration.


Another exciting CC development is the P-TECH partnership with Western Community College and CC Construction program. In a nutshell, P-TECH partnership will allow those students who want an associate degree in the construction pathway the opportunity to continue their post-secondary education for free and can start the process the freshman year- EXCITING.


As you can see we are continuing to celebrate the student as the Center of Learning, supporting the 4Ps of Success and passing it forward with an Appreciation of the Human Condition.


Please join us as we work hard and do our best to celebrate the positive “happenings” in 2021.

Early Childcare Program students have been busy!



New students and Beginning Pathway students are working on basic child development concepts. Intermediate Pathway students are doing advanced presentations on social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-agers.


Students are working on goals set forth by the CDA (Child Development Associate) certification. (Advanced Pathway).

Our simulation baby program is a big success with the students. They are enjoying and yet are frustrated by the baby as they care for it in class and still maintain their grades.

Students who are interns will soon be going back out into their early childcare sites (as allowed with COVID licensing rules and regulations). This term they will be required to do some in depth evaluations and planning in addition to observations daily.

As always, thank you for sharing your child with me as we move them into the future.

Remote Parent Teacher Conferences Coming up in February.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held remotely on Thursday February 4th for Career Center and Valley students. Please look for communications from your students instructor with more information.

Roy Railsback

Career Center Staff Spotlight. The Spotlight is shifting to our team in SWAP: School to Work Alliance Program. Roy Railsback has been a part of Team CC since January 2014. Through SWAP, Roy services Palisade High School, Grand River Academy, InSTEPS and Gateway School. He has an Associate of Applied Science Criminal Justice degree and is in the process of obtaining his B.A. in Special Education through C.C.U. When Roy isn't focused on work and school, he enjoys the 3 F's...Family, Food and Football! One of Roy's favorite quotes is a good reminder to all of us: " People have a way of living up to or down to our Expectations of them" -Pygmalion/Golem Effect

Pamela Herrera

Career Center Staff Spotlight. Heading into the weekend we are introducing another friendly face you'll see in SWAP (even behind the mask), Pamela Hererra! Pamela has worked for MCVSD for 13 years. Twelve of those years were at Rocky Mountain Elementary as a Kindergarten Paraprofessional and Behavior Paraprofessional. Through Career Center SWAP, School to Work Alliance Program, she services Grand Junction High School, Juniper Ridge, Independence Academy and Plateau Valley. Pamela believes in taking one day at a time and living every day to the fullest which is great advice to live by! She enjoys hanging out with family, vintage cars, watching movies, creating art, riding bikes, completing puzzles and crosswords as well as listening to music. Happy to have you in SWAP!

Felipe Soto

Career Center Staff Spotlight. SWAP introduces a former Career Center student himself, Felipe Soto! Felipe has 12 + years experience working with at risk Youth through Partners program and DYS. He also has 20+ years as a practitioner of Martial Arts which takes a lot of discipline! Through SWAP Felipe services Fruita Monument High School, R-5, Summit and Fruita 8/9. When Felipe isn't working with SWAP, he stays busy at his gym and has 20+ years experience working as an Electrician. He enjoys martial arts, fitness and the great outdoors and says he is a leader and follower of anything positive. Felipe is a positive person and his zest for life is easily rubbed off on the people in his circle. No wonder one of his favorite quotes is "Don't squander the gift existence" .

Kelly Weeks

Happy Friday! Career Center Staff Spotlight. Here's a familiar face to many! Kelly Weeks, InSTEPS Instructor has been in the education field for 20 years! Her experience, dedication, love for her job and students certainly shows-just ask any of her students!! Kelly always seems to have something in motion and enjoys staying busy, whether it involves work or vacation. You can find her hiking, doing yoga, visiting National Parks, at Special Olympics Events and we all know how much she loves maple covered cinnamon rolls and all things purple. Personal growth is one of Kelly's key focuses and she lives it!

Kyauna Jaszkowiak

Career Center Staff Spotlight. Today we turn our attention to Kyauna Jaszkowiak (jazz-kov-yak)---(Try saying that 5 times fast!) who is part of the InSTEPS Four Amigo's Crew! A fun fact you may not know about Kyauna; she has her own library at her home and loves to read. She says a good book can fix anything! She also loves her 3 beautiful pups, shown here in her photo and her husband (not shown )! One of Kyauna's favorite things is a good street taco with lime, spending time with her family and her adorable dogs as well as four wheeling with her husband.

Marlene Loucks

Career Center Staff Spotlight. Share a Happy Friday celebration with InSTEPS Marlene Loucks who has 15 years of service in the education field and makes up 1/4 of the Four Amigo's Crew! You can't see Marlene's beaming smile under her mask, but make no mistake, it's there! It's no surprise by looking at her photo, she enjoys hiking, camping, backpacking, photography, traveling and spending time with her family. Her dedication to youth and mentoring spills over into her hobbies where she combines the two loves and she and her husband chaperone a group of students on a Science Field Trip to the "Big Island" of Hawaii every summer! Wow-that's just amazing!
