MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Sailor Families,
Happy Valentine’s Day! A lot of red, pink and purple at BH today and A LOT of excitement which we are embracing with full hearts. To make things even more special, we get a little snow coming in overnight. You have to love February in Wisconsin. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership!
February Student-Led Conferences
We are excited to welcome you for our “Spring” student-led conferences. Our conferences (and book fair) will be held February 27th and 29th from 4:00-7:30pm. After our Fall conferences, we asked for some feedback on our conferences and appreciated the information. We worked to find themes from the feedback and make some tweaks as necessary. Please review the helpful hints and reminders:
Student-Led conferences are a key part of our leadership journey at BH. Students will reflect and work to prepare updates on their learning progress (glows and grows), while utilizing their learning/leadership portfolio. Teachers will also share updates regarding the student progress at school while also receiving updates from home. During the conference, a key part is asking questions and discussing the learning with the student! There is a lot to celebrate.
If you feel like you have some key items that you would like to cover with the teacher, sending a message to them in advance is helpful and/or setting up a separate time to meet is a good idea.
A 15 minute conference will fly by. We need to make sure we begin and end on time. This might mean that teachers will set timers or alarms to keep them on track.
We really want the focus to be on the student at the conference. We ask that if there is a sibling who is a BH student, that they either wait outside the room or have something that they can keep busy with during that 15 minute time. If there are non school-age children, we are working to solidify and put into place a free babysitting option at BH during conferences if you would like to take advantage of that. Watch for more information to come in regards.
On the morning of February 16th, a communication will go out to alert you to sign up for spring conferences using Sign-up Genius. This is the same process from the fall.
If your student works with other specialists in the school, there will be options to sign up to meet with those teachers separate from the student-led conference if you would like. Again, with only having 15 minutes, we can’t have too many people involved at one time.
We look forward to seeing you all soon!
Tony Ebeling, Bay Harbor Principal

VISITORS
In preparation of our upcoming Spring Concert, please stop in our office to have your Drivers License scanned through our Raptor system. Whether you are dropping off/picking up your child, coming to parent/teacher conferences or waiting in the pickup line, it will only take a few minutes of your time. Grandparents are welcome to do this as well!
You only need to do this once so if you have already done it at any HSSD school no need to do it again!

mySAEBRS
Attention Parents/Guardians of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Graders:
Your student will have an opportunity to increase their awareness of their social and emotional behaviors through completing a social, academic and behavior screener. The screener, mySAEBRS, will ask students a total of 21 questions and will be completed in under 10 minutes. The student’s teacher will also complete a similar screener based on their observations of their students. This screener will allow school staff to identify universal and targeted areas for growth focused on students’ ability to regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships and make positive decisions. This screener is done twice a year.
Feel free to contact Sydnee Milis with any questions or for more information. If you would like to opt your child out of the screening process please complete this opt out form by March 1st.

Howard-Suamico Storm Breakers Pre-Competitive Swim Class
Does your child love to swim? Please consider the Howard-Suamico Storm Breakers (HSSB), the local, competitive club swim team!
There will be a two-week, pre-competitive swim class from March 4-14 (no class on March 7). This class is for prospective new swimmers interested in learning about competitive swimming. Swimmers should be level 3 or higher in swim lessons or should be able to swim the length of the pool without stopping or needing help. If your child is not level 3 or higher, they can be tested on the first day. Instructors will not be in the water with the swimmers.
If interested, please register here. The cost is $30. There are 24 spots available. The class will be held at the Howard-Suamico Community Pool (attached to Lineville Intermediate).
If your child is not able to register, but would still like to try out for HSSB, tryouts will be held on March 15 (time TBD). Any swimmer who does the two week pre-competitive class and would like to join the team does not need to try out.
If you have any questions, please reach out to head coach Connor Huff at huff.connor@gmail.com.
