This Week at Windsor...
#WEAREWINDSOR
February 10th, 2023
Windsor Families,
Next week, students will be celebrating Valentine's Day, please remember that there is no food allowed at the parties or to be handed out with Valentine's. If any kind of food is sent, it will be sent back home with the student.
We have a lot of winter items in our lost and found. Please label all gear that your child comes to school with. We find a lot of bags of winter gear that we are unable to reunite with their owners because they are not labeled.
Please see the information below regarding the 5Essentials Parent Survey, we need 20% parent participation and Windsor is currently at 7% participation.
Reminder, parent-teacher conference links close on Monday at noon. You can access the links in the email that was sent on Thursday, February 9th.
To meet the ABC25 membership goal, Windsor still needs several more families to join. If you are able to, please click this link to join: abc25.org/donate.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Go to: https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/login/ to take the survey.
You may enter your email address if you would like to receive confirmation of your submission, but it is not required.
Then enter “Cook” into the county field and “Windsor” to find our school.
Enter how many children you have at this school.
You will then be asked a series of questions to provide input regarding your family’s experience here at Windsor. Please remember to click “submit” once you are done so your responses can be counted.
Please know that your identity and responses will be kept confidential and will not be connected with your child. If you have multiple children who attend Windsor, you may complete one survey for each child. However, only one parent per household may submit a survey for a given child. The survey closes on March 31, so please submit your responses soon!
Thank you in advance for your time and input. We appreciate you!

Notes from the Nurse
Hello Windsor Families!
We are seeing an uptick in upper respiratory and stomach illness as well as Strep cases. I thought it might be helpful to include some information this week as you navigate common childhood illnesses .
Upper respiratory virus symptoms can include: runny nose, cough, sore throat and fever. Rest, good nutrition and hydration will be the best medicine. Antibiotic treatment will not help.
Strep throat (bacterial) symptoms typically are sore throat with red tonsils (often white spots on tonsils), headache, stomach ache or vomiting. Scarlet fever is another form of Strep. Your child will have a sandpaper like rash on the skin. The distinctive pink-red rash caused by scarlet fever develops 12 to 48 hours after symptoms like a sore throat or headache. Red blotches are the first sign of the rash. These turn into a fine pink-red rash that feels like sandpaper to touch and looks like sunburn. It may also be itchy. For strep throat or scarlet fever, your child needs to see a healthcare professional to be diagnosed and prescribed an antibiotic after a lab test diagnosis.
Stomach illness typically does not have a fever (or low-grade) and includes abdominal pain, vomiting and/or diarrhea and usually lasts no more than 48 hours. It comes on quickly and goes quickly!
For all of the above, when your child is without fever, vomiting, diarrhea for 24 hours from the last episode and feeling better, they may return to school. If diagnosed with Strep or scarlet fever they may return to school 24 hours after beginning antibiotic treatment and feeling better.
Please let us know if you have any questions as always–we are happy to help!
Sincerely,
Darlene Carpenter, RN Windsor School Nurse
Kimmy Solano, Certified School Nurse
Stella's Station
Build a snowman indoors and have a little STEM challenge of your own at home with this Snowman Stretch project. Participants receive the same supplies, and their goal is to make their snowman stretch to be the highest of the bunch. You can add your own parameters on the activities as well, such as how many “balls of snow” the snowman should be, or by making the snowman all out of different types of geometric figures. Set a timer and let the fun begin! If your family does this challenge, I’d love to see pictures of your snowmen! Have a great weekend! ~Mrs. Stella
Staff Spotlight:
Laura Miller
I am an Occupational Therapist in SD25. I have my OT degree from Indiana University. I have been in SD 25 for 15 years but an OT for 27 years. While I have served in 7 of the 9 Arlington Heights schools, I am currently full time at Windsor. A really fun and unique part of my job is that I have the opportunity to work with many students and families from Kindergarten thru 5th grade.
In my free time, I enjoy being with family and friends. One of my favorite gifts in life is being an aunt to 8 nieces and nephews ranging from 5 to 21. I also volunteer at my church in various ways but a highlight of that volunteer work is a weekly tutoring program.
I am very grateful to be a part of the Windsor Family!
