PCMS Weekly Update
May 3, 2024
Good Afternoon PCMS Families!
As you read this, we are down to only 10 days of school remaining for this year … but there are STILL 10 DAYS OF SCHOOL REMAINING ;) We finished MAP testing this week - 2 weeks of testing and block schedules, but starting Monday, everything is back to normal! Thank you for helping get them ready, scheduling appointments outside of testing, and all the things that go with this - we appreciate it!!
We know that as the days count down, the kids are thinking less about school and more about their summer. Please keep working with them on finishing the 4th quarter strong as we’ll be working hard right up until that last day. Tests, final projects, etc. are still ahead of us. Your support and encouragement as parents are so important in helping our students succeed. Please keep reminding them of the importance of being here, studying, and being engaged in class. Your involvement makes a big difference and we're grateful for your partnership.
Enjoy the beautiful weekend and GO PIRATES!!
🚀 Check Out What We Did This Week
6th graders in Mrs. Robertson's Flight and Space classes were treated to a visit from Detective Fleishans of the Platte County Sheriff's department. He shared how they use drones to fight crime, find missing people, and help the community.
🎯 Pirates in Action
It’s starting to slow down for our Pirates as the year comes to an end. We’re excited to see our Choirs and Bands as they have their final performances this upcoming week. We are also cheering on our Archery students that are at Nationals this weekend. Good luck to all of those Pirates performing!
This Week's Pirates of Character 🧡 Focus
- 6th Grade focused on Calming Our Emotions. This is the 2nd of 2 emotion-focused sessions that follow up on earlier emotion sessions in this grade. In this session, we learned and practiced a skill for helping us stay calm by focusing on the sensations where our body contacts solid surfaces.
- 7th Grade continued to work Well-Being. This is the 3rd of 4 sessions on well-being. In this session, we continued to work together to generate and share ideas for ways we can boost our well-being.
- 8th Grade assessed their time management skills and identified areas for improvement. We continued to look at how good we are at managing our time. Time management, just like character development, is something that we can get better at with practice!
👕 School Reminder
We have been finding all sorts of hooded sweatshirts, water bottles, lunch boxes, and other miscellaneous items being left here and there. We would love to get these items back to their owners as quickly as possible. Please ask your students to check the Lost and Found table to see if anything might belong to them or parents are welcome to come in and check the table at any time! We also have jewelry items and Stanley mugs in the office.
After School gets out for the Summer, we will be donating any items left over to Hillcrest.
😍 We Love Our PTO!
A Big THANK YOU goes out to our PTO for providing snacks, food, gifts, etc. and making all of the staff feel so loved and appreciated during this entire week for Staff Appreciation! They really went above and beyond this week! Thank you so much for all the support you give our school!

If those items are not returned prior to school ending or are damaged, fees will be charged accordingly.
All 8th grade students will turn in their Chromebook on Thursday, May 23. Please ensure that your child has 1) their Chromebook, 2) the school-issued charger, and 3) the school-issued carrying bag.
