FOR OUR π¦ FAMILIES
Dear Families,
Stay safe and healthy this summer! Here are some simple ways to protect your familyβs health while in New York City and traveling. Travelers may need to take extra precautions due to the increased risk of certain infections. For instance, there are measles outbreaks in parts of Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa, and there is a significant dengue outbreak in the Caribbean and Central and South America.
For more information, click Travel Health Factsheet for Parents to access it in English, as well as other languages. Stay well and have a wonderful summer!
Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)
Beginning in 2024, New York State will launch Summer EBT, a new program that provides low-income families with food benefits to help buy groceries during the summer when kids might not have access to school meals. Most eligible children will receive Summer EBT food benefits automatically; however, some families may need to apply.
This website will be updated with more information as it becomes available. Pleas use this link to go to the site
Important Reminder: Steps for Moving or Relocating from PS 23
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the end of the school year, we need your assistance. If you plan to move or relocate and your child will be leaving PS 23 during the summer, please follow these steps:
1) Complete the Google Form: Please fill out the Notification of Intent To Move or Relocate Form. Additionally, contact the main office to ensure we have the most up-to-date information. This will help us reach you or your child's new school to facilitate the transfer process.
2) Return Borrowed School Devices: Please return any borrowed school devices. This helps us maintain accurate inventory records and ensures your child can receive a device at their new school.
To have the Google form translated, follow these instructions:
A) Click the link and open the form.
B) Right-click anywhere on the form.
C) Select "Translate to [Your Language]" from the context menu. It may appear as "TRANSLATE TO ENGLISH." Click the "Translate to English" option, and a box in the upper right-hand corner will appear, allowing you to choose another language. Choose your language from the translation bar that appears, and the entire form will be translated into your chosen language.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Safer Access System Letter From the DOE
Dear Families,
We have some important news to share regarding the safety measures at our school. In line with our commitment to enhance security practices, all NYC Public Schools will have a Safer Access system installed during the 2023-25 school years. The Safer Access system is designed to strengthen our existing safety and security practices as part of the overall visitor protocols at our school.
What is Safer Access?
The primary objective of the Safer Access system is to ensure that all doors remain locked outside of the morning-entry and afternoon-dismissal periods. When school doors are locked, visitors wishing to gain access to the building will ring the intercom at the main entrance door (or ADA-accessibility entrance if applicable) and identify themselves before access is granted into the school building. Safer Access allows our dedicated staff assigned to the main desk (School Safety Agents and/or school staff) to be able to see and speak with visitors before granting them access inside. Please be assured that all visitors to our school will continue to be treated with courtesy, professionalism, and respect while awaiting entry into our building. In addition to enhancing safety, this system allows for easy access for first responders during an emergency.
Once our Safer Access system is installed and operational, our school staff (including School Safety Agents) and students will receive training on using the system as well as how to support all visitors in accordance with our policy.
We believe Safer Access will greatly contribute to maintaining a secure learning environment for our students and staff.
We look forward to the NYC Public Schools Safer Access system creating a safer environment for everyone. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.
π¦Ί Student Arrival, Lateness, & Installation of the New Buzzer System π¦Ί
Please remember that school starts promptly at 8:10 AM. Many students arrive well after 8:10 AM, and classes have started transitioning to begin instructional activities. Be aware that when your child arrives late, they often need clarification and are slow-moving, trying to get oriented while their classmates have already settled in. To help your child be ready to learn, please help them arrive on time. Stop-and-drop and morning staff who help outside, have other duties and responsibilities that begin at 8:10 AM.
Please also be mindful that the new buzzer system is close to being fully installed. Once we are trained, the buzzer will be operational. With this, our morning procedures will change, and after 8:20 AM, we can only buzz a child in with a parent coming in with them to sign a log book. To avoid inconvenience, start getting used to helping your child arrive before 8:10 AM. More information about the buzzer will follow once it becomes available in the next few weeks.
Help us help you! Get your child here between 7:50 and 8:10 AM so our excellent stop-and-drop and morning staff can assist your child in joining their class before the day begins. Getting here on time will help them be ready to learn when instruction starts and prevent parents from being inconvenienced by using the buzzer to enter the school building. Thank you for your continued support.
π Traffic Issues Around The School π¨
We are a school that focuses on teaching children leadership. I apologize in advance to the adults that do the right thing. Several of our neighbors in and around our school have complained about parents blocking their driveways, double parking, and in some cases, being rude and disrespectful. Even one of our staff members got injured during stop-and-drop due to negligent driving and a lack of awareness on the driver's part. Remember, our school is in a residential area. We have always had good relationships with our neighbors, but they are fed up! We are worried about the safety of students, staff, and parents.
Be aware of what gear your car is in while your child exits your vehicle, and a staff member helps them. Please don't make U-turns on Natick Street during stop-and-drop, double park, let your child out in the middle of the street, block people's driveways when coming into the school to get your sick child, or curse at the crossing guards or the neighbors. IT IS NOT OKAY, NOT EVEN FOR 1 MINUTE. You wouldn't want that done to you. R_E_S_P_E_C_T others.
You would not want anyone to treat your family like this. Instead, be kind and courteous, park away from the school, and walk. NYPD has been contacted for support, and they will be actively ticketing people who drive and park illegally without warning. Your support is appreciated and expected.
