🍁It's Fall Ya'll!!🍂
Dear Trails Families,
As the warm air hangs around a little longer and we yearn for cooler weather, we’re excited to share all that’s happening this October! We hope you’re enjoying the start of the season as much as we are. From fun events to heartfelt moments, this month is packed with excitement!
Upcoming Events

Grade-Level Highlights
- PreK: PreK has been learning about the new big world of being at school! We are learning how to make friends, follow directions and how to participate even when we are nervous! We are getting ready for autumn and will soon learn about the season change and what happens to the leaves and animals.
Kindergarten: Kindergarten is moving right along this year! We’ve been working super hard in UFLI and have been reading and writing some cvc words! In our math series we are focusing on numbers 0-10. We are getting good at writing numbers, recognizing them, and even comparing them. We wrapped up our ABC boot camp with our annual fashion show. It was a hit!
1st Grade: We have been working hard on learning addition to 10 and we are ready to start trying our hand at subtraction! We are also wrapping up learning to read words with short vowels and consonant blends. Don't forget to read each night before bed to help establish a love of reading as we work towards being able to read on our own!
2nd Grade: The end of our 1st quarter is quickly approaching! 2nd grade is finishing up our beginning of the year assessments and looking forward to sharing that data with families at our upcoming conferences on October 3rd and 7th. If you haven't scheduled a time to meet with your child's teacher please reach out to set up a time. In ELA we have been working on building, blending and decoding long vowel words with a silent "e." In math unit 2 and 3 have been focused on teaching various addition and subtraction strategies. Addition and subtraction fact fluency to 20 is a state standard for second graders. Students should include some type of fact practice in their weekly homework routine. Practice can include flashcards, online programs, or even playing games.
3rd Grade: We have had a busy September in third grade! We started weekly multiplication quizzes, examined Oklahoma's physical and political features on a map, and have all been hard at work writing wonderful personal narratives about the fall. For the month of October, be on the lookout for a Seesaw message and information coming home soon about our awesome pumpkin book report project!
4th Grade: Fourth grade is learning about the elements of fiction, specifically the plot and conflict. We are also having fun learning the meanings of idioms and using them in our speaking and writing. In grammar, we have been focusing on using punctuation and conjunctions correctly in compound sentences. We are continuing multiplication in math.
Library News:Pre-K - Book care, Who is the author? and Who is the illustrator?
Kindergarten - Motor skills & Letter recognition

We will begin shooting the 2nd week of October. 4th grade students will be bringing home permission slips to tryout for our Archery Club soon. All other grades will be working with their peers to share equipment and space. We will be playing games to work on skills such as: rolling, underhand toss, throwing, and locomotor skills.
Music News: In Prek-2nd grade we are continuing to explore the elements of music through fall songs and dances. In 3rd and 4th we are continuing to identify elements of music such as high and low sounds and how to write rhythms through games and songs
Art News: PreK-KG: We are going to be focusing on shapes and colors. We will discuss how to implement them within our artwork, and importance of our Color Wheel! In 1st-4th: We are celebrating Fall! We will continue to learn how to implement the elements of art while utilizing different materials within our artwork! We will be painting, working with pastels, and learning about the style of mixed media!

🚌Transportation Information
Transportation - MPS Buses Are Safest Way To School
Mustang Public School’s buses are the safest way to get to and from school each day. Statistics from the School Bus Information Council show that buses are safer for students than airlines, passenger trains and passenger cars, which have the highest injury rate.
Mustang’s bus drivers go through strict training, which includes written tests as well as driving instruction and a driving test. New bus drivers will have a minimum of 15 hours on-the-road training with Mustang transportation department staff before they begin transporting children. Training is provided in-house.
Besides the benefits of safety, when more students ride the bus it significantly reduces congestion around the schools. It is also means a gas savings for parents.

🚗 Car Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Thank you to those that scoot all the way up & make your car rider sign visible!
THANK YOU for keeping your car rider tag visible!!!
Procedures for Car Riders
*When dropping off or picking up students, all vehicles MUST use the car rider lane located off of Czech Hall road. The front drive of the school is for school buses, daycare vans, and handicapped students. If you do not have a PINK handicapped tag you will be stopped when trying to enter the front drive during arrival (7:15-7:45) and dismissal (2:15-2:45).
*All vehicles MUST go through the drop off/pick up line. Vehicles SHOULD NOT park unless you are going into the school with your child. If you need to park, please park on the east side of the school in a parking place.
*Morning Drop off begins at 7:15 AM. No supervision is provided before then.
* The entry from Czech Hall will remain one lane. Two rows of traffic will be formed after entering the car rider drive. Duty teachers will direct parents as to when students should exit their cars. Please be aware of what is going on around you as multiple cars will unload at the same time. Watch for a staff person to direct traffic to move forward with a Stop/Go sign. The left lane of traffic will turn left out of Trails, Right lane will turn right. There will be no crossover of traffic.
*While in the car rider lane, parents should remain in vehicles. There will be staff members on duty if a child needs help entering/exiting a vehicle. ALL STUDENTS MUST EXIT ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR FOR SAFETY.
*At 7:40 am, the K- 4th grade car rider lane will be closed and used for Pre-K drop off only (from 7:50-8:00). At that time, parents must park and walk your child in the main doors and check them in through the office as your student is considered tardy. (We will not count tardies for the first week of school to give everyone time to get used to the procedures and to allow our car line to move more quickly.)
*During afternoon dismissal, if you do not have your car rider tag, you will be asked to come into the office and show ID before a child is released. This is for the safety of our students. Our Office closes at 3:00. All children should be picked up by 2:50pm.
*At no point should children be dropped off and left unescorted by an adult when coming to school. (late check ins, doctors appts, etc)
Please have coats on, backpacks ready, lunch boxes in hand and kisses and hugs completed before time to exit the car. This will help make our car line more efficient.
Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.
