Dragon Dash
The Dragon Dash was a huge success this year! Our school goal was to raise $30,000 for the PTA to help provide great opportunities for our students and staff. I am happy to announce that we blew past that goal and currently we are just a little over $40,000 as a school.
A huge thank you to every student and family that helped make this a possibility. We are still taking any pledges until Monday, October 21st so we will have final numbers next week as well as the top grade and classroom. This year we had a great event with perfect weather. I hope all of the families enjoyed it as much as we did.
All of this couldn't happen without the tremendous amount of work from many people. First of all, Mrs. Morrison and the other Specialist Teachers did a great job organizing and supervising the event. Mrs. Bullivant and Ms. Pelletier helped Mrs. Morrison during every grade level time and made sure the students had fun and knew what they were doing.
As always, the PTA played a huge part in the success of the event. We had volunteers helping with the set-up and providing everything we needed for the event. They gave up their time to be here and help with the event all day.
I would also like to thank Mrs. Tierney and the Family Engagement Committee for their help in planning the event and organizing everything that happened during the day. Ms. Nelson, Mr Kellar-Long, Mrs. Clayton-King, Mrs. Swift and Mrs. Haugo are all part of the committee with Mrs. Tierney and Mrs. Morrison. Great job by everyone!
PTA News
Dear Randolph Heights families,
Thank you for raising over $40,000 for the RHS PTA! This surpassed our $30,000 goal for the Dragon Dash. One bonus to meeting our fundraising goal is that Fall Festival activities (games, face painting, pumpkin painting, etc.) will be free for all families! THANK YOU to our generous donors!
Fall Festival is coming up on Thursday, October 24 from 5:30-7:30 pm at RHS. Costumes are welcome (please leave weapons and costume masks at home). There will be games, face painting, food for purchase, a Monster Mash dance in the gym and more! A few additional notes about Fall Festival:
- Cash preferred for food purchases.
- Vaccine clinic on site (flu and covid)
- Parent/guardian should be on site (please do not drop off your child and leave)
The Fall Festival is only possible with the support of our families! There are two ways to help out with the Fall Festival this year, and we invite you to participate in both!
- Volunteer! Click the link at the top of the newsletter to select your preferred volunteer time slot and role.
- We need gently used books for the “Book Walk!” Please drop off books your family is ready to share outside the school office by Wednesday, October 23.
The Monday, October 21 PTA meeting has been canceled. In lieu of the meeting, we hope to see you at the Fall Festival!

Music Room News
Fall Notes from the Music Room:
Kindergartners have been finding their lovely singing voices, showing steady beats, and exploring different ways to move their bodies to music. You may have heard them singing the songs we are learning for their Feb 13 concert. Please save the date: we're throwing a music party and you won't want to miss it!
First graders are developing good singing habits as they learn their concert songs. We refreshed some of our Spanish-language songs from last year, and dusted off our salsa dancing as well. The feet always remember what to do once they have learned the step! First grade families, please save April 17 for your concert date.
Second graders have learned how to safely transport and handle their ukuleles, and can pick and sing the silly tuning melody ("my dog has fleas"). Now we are learning how to move back and forth between chords and strum smoothly. By the end of October, we'll be playing along with songs they like. The 2nd grade show is on March 20 this year: mark your calendars!
Third graders have strengthened their note-reading skills in preparation for starting recorders after MEA break. They've also gotten to enjoy the hard work they put into ukulele basics last year, and they are already learning songs for their May 15 musical. Your third grader might even find the 'son clave' rhythm pattern in your family's favorite music at home.
Fourth and fifth graders are the hardworking music leaders at Randolph Heights: they're already in the polishing stages for the concert coming up on Dec 12. Fourth graders will be performing in the daytime and evening shows, and 5th graders have the option to join the daytime performance if they wish. Fifth graders will have opportunities to share their considerable musical gifts and their special song later in the year as well, but for now all eyes are on Eagle Bluff preparation!
It is a great pleasure and privilege to make music with your children. Always feel free to reach out with questions or ideas, and you're welcome to stop in during conferences: I'll be at RH 8-11am on Friday 11/8, 5-7pm on Tuesday 11/12, and 3-7pm on Tuesday 11/19.
Sincerely yours,
Ms. Bowron (Stephanie.Bowron@spps.org)
