A Word From Our Athletic Director
Hello Rangers! I just want to take the time to encourage you all to get active and participate in multiple sports here at Terry HS. Here are some fun facts according to the University of Rochester regarding the benefits that playing sports can provide you!
- Playing sports teaches life lessons like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, accountability, and teamwork (Benefits of Sports to Students, 2015).
- Playing high school sports can potentially get your college education paid for by earning a full scholarship.
- "Studies have shown that exercise increases blood flow to the brain and helps the body build more connections between nerves, leading to increased concentration, enhanced memory, stimulated creativity, and better-developed problem-solving skills. In short, playing sports helps your brain grow and makes it work better" (Benefits of Sports to Students, 2015).
- "From a social standpoint, sports are a powerful tool that brings people together and creates a sense of community. They develop connections that bond together people from all walks of life for their entire life" (Benefits of Sports to Students, 2015).
- Playing sports teaches students how to deal with failure and disappointment in life. Through sports they learn they are not always going to get the results they may want, but no matter what, they have to persevere and never give up (Benefits of Sports to Students, 2015).
- Health care professionals recommend using high school sports as a key ingredient to manage stressful activities such as the pressures that classwork, homework, tests, and deadlines bring upon students. Sports provide a healthy escape from the pressures of life that high school students have to face on a daily basis (Benefits of Sports to Students, 2015).
- Research shows that because intense exercise through team sports pumps more oxygen through your blood and makes your entire system more active, giving you more energy to accomplish everything else you need to do to manage your busy high school schedule (Benefits of Sports to Students, 2015).
- "To sum it all up, playing high school sports has some serious benefits. Besides just being fun, sports can help you perform better in school, relax more and worry less, deal with setbacks, work better with others and increase your energy — all of which helps you balance school and everything else going on in your life" (Benefits of Sports to Students, 2015).
With all that said, what better way to represent your high school and potentially earn a scholarship to pay for college. Most importantly playing sports will allow you to be a part of something greater than yourself and gain a family that you will be able to share experiences and memories with that you will have to cherish for the rest of your life! I want to encourage each and every student here on campus to play multiple sports, why limit yourself right? And by doing so I guarantee that you will get the most out of your high school experience! Take care you all and RANGER PRIDE!!!
