A Monthly Parent Newsletter - October 2024
Superintendent's Message
Dear CCSD Family,
September always has been one of my favorite months of the year. I have always loved finally settling into the routine of the school year, the cooling of temperatures, the Friday Night Lights traditions, and savoring the lingering memories of summer.
Being a Superintendent in the month of September is typically a time full of optimism, leading through the momentum of the start of a new school year and beginning the listening, discovery, and research to start planning for the next school year. This September, however, was different, as the month was darkened by the horrible tragedy at Apalachee HS, and then followed by a monumental weather event that brought catastrophe to families and communities in its path. Like you, I have felt the weight of these tragedies as we watch neighbors and nearby communities grapple with heart-wrenching devastation.
As we begin October, I again am filled with a sense of hope and belief in our schools. Returning to my regular schedule of visiting schools and listening to our school communities, I’m reminded of the importance of these communities and their tightly knit fabric that bonds us together. The best professionals in public education are in Cherokee, and the students and families we serve really are incredible
October is a time for two special employee recognitions in our schools: National Principals Month and National School Custodian Day, Oct. 2. Please join me this month in thanking your school's Principal and custodial team for all they do to support our students’ success!
Mary Elizabeth Davis
Superintendent of Schools
Superintendent Davis surprised ACTIVE Academies Head Custodian Joyce Edwards on National School Custodian Day with flowers and a gift bag to thank her for her service. Joining in the celebration is Principal Mark Smith.
