HOMELESS EDUCATION RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT
The California Homeless Education Technical Assistance Center (HETAC) released a resource for new COE and LEA liaisons: A Guide to the Homeless Liaison Role in California: Legal Guidelines and Implementation Strategies
This California Homeless Education Technical Assistance Center (HETAC) resource:
- Outlines the responsibilities of local educational agency (LEA) homeless liaisons and LEAs under federal education statute and California Education Code,
- Highlights additional responsibilities specific to the role of the county office of education (COE) liaison, and
- Recommends strategies for implementing these responsibilities effectively. This resource was developed in partnership by the California HETAC and SchoolHouse Connection.

CDE Homeless Education Data & Donuts
Join the California Department of Education (CDE) for Data, Donuts, and Discussion homeless student data office hours. Dig into homeless education data with CDE and California local educational agencies. Data and Donuts is open to all County Office of Education (COE) liaisons, local educational agency (LEA) liaisons, and other interested stakeholders.

BRIGHTON LEARNING: Restorative Practices in Support of Children, Youth & Parents Experiencing Homelessness

Description: Setting up restorative environments for adults: What it looks like, why it’s beneficial, and how restorative practices can help to heal and repair harm. In this session, participants will first learn about the history of restorative practices and how they transitioned from restorative justice to a more widespread restorative environments model. We will also explore restorative practices as a strategy to promote community, safety, healing, and empathy by setting up an effective restorative environment. We will talk about how to set up and implement restorative circles in a way that encourages participation at different levels. This workshop will give you the tools you need to start setting up a restorative environment and maintaining those practices to reach regular, consistent positive outcomes

HETAC WEBINAR: Supporting Access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathways for Students Experiencing Homelessness

IMPORTANT SURVEY
The California Department of Education (CDE) and our evaluation partners at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) are surveying Homeless Education Liaisons throughout the state to understand the needs of our students experiencing homelessness, how local educational agencies (LEA) support their needs, and the impacts of the American Rescue Plan – Homeless Children and Youth (ARP-HCY) funds.
The survey was launched on Monday, February 26, 2024.
COEs, please check in with your LEAs to have them check their emails boxes for the link to this survey and ask them to make sure they complete the survey.

CAAVA Training
The CA HETAC is offering a special opportunity to attend a CAAVE training for free to your region! CAAVE stands for Compassion, Awareness, Acceptance, Validation and Empowerment and is a research-based, interactive learning experience that builds a shared understanding for the power of relationships and invaluable life-long skills for leaders, managers and teams.
This training is appropriate for all school site staff including teachers, counselors and administrators.

The HETAC as been partnering with the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education and SchoolHouse Connection to provide you with two new resource that are available statewide to County Offices of Educations and LEAs. These two new resources include the following:
