While the start of the fourth and final term of 2021 has been disrupted by the cancellation of numerous school events, once again our Masterton Intermediate students have maintained a kind, happy and positive outlook towards their daily mahi. We also appreciate the support and understanding from our families when receiving the news that activities such as our kapa haka festival and trip, Poly fest, WRISSA ki-o-rahi, softball, touch, swimming and athletics were no longer able to proceed.
One of the annual MIS events that has been possible was our syndicate dance competition that took place this week on Tuesday afternoon, November 2. All four teams performed with high levels of effort, enthusiasm and a good sense of timing. Many thanks to our four kaiwhakawā, Emily Enoka, Victoria Medina, Anton Pulefale and Jose Vatselias.
The results were very close:
1st place Waipoua - 139 points, out of a possible 160
2nd place Kaituna - 137 points
3rd place Waingawa - 136.5 points
4th place Waiohine - 130 points
We await further announcements over the coming weeks in regard to how some of the other scheduled school activities can go ahead during the remaining weeks of term four. This includes our Orientation Day, Curriculum Awards, Service Awards and Prize Giving Assembly in December.
We hope to have more information for you before the end of this month.

Term four has started off well with our students engaging in as many activities as possible despite several cancellations. Many students have put themselves forward for the digital photography and the diary cover competitions and the calibre has been high. We look forward to seeing the outcome of these in the next edition of our newsletter.
It has been pleasing to have recently received some positive feedback about our students from members of the public commenting on how well our students have been conducting themselves when representing our school.

Hi Russell
I'm the manager of a Gladstone School tennis team and I just wanted to pass on some positive feedback about a couple of your tennis players from our games last week. We played the MIS Mako's (Duncan and Olivia Weir and Angus and Harry and Angus Monk). I just wanted to pass on what a cool bunch of kids they were. We were a much younger and less able team than those players and they were amazing with our players. They were so kind, helpful and patient with our kids so I thought it would be nice to say how impressed we were with the attitude of them all. What a great display of manaakitanga.

Got some feedback for you and your awesome MIS Kids
Volleyball Monday...and our parent/coach was so impressed with your children...how they were so very kind, supportive and encouraging towards our young players.
They've been moved now to the kiwi volley...but I'm grateful that their experience playing against 'the big kids' was so positive.

My name is Danielle Robertson. I am 12 years old and I live in a town in the lower North Island called Masterton. I have recently written a poem about getting the Covid- 19 Vaccine in hope to encourage others who are perhaps too afraid to get it. I, myself am fully vaccinated but really don't like needles. I was scared to get it at first but my parents reminded me of what this vaccine can do to help us. .

Aquabots are a challenging task. You need to have patience and be able to have good skills when it comes to making your bot and if you put in the training you have a good chance of winning.

The hardest thing we faced as a team was the skill and the arguments because we would have a couple of arguments about someone else making a mistake or someone doing something bad with

Wiring was probably the most challenging aspect of this build, you had to be so careful while soldering the components to the circuit board. One mess up and you're screwed. Lockdown really got in the way but we managed to build it and get a bit of practice in.
Lucas Stoneley RM16
Making sure all of the wires were soldered on properly and making sure everything is waterproof but the easiest part was building the frame of the aquabot but my team still did good.
