News from the Guidance Office
PSAT 2017 – The PSAT will be offered at CB West on Saturday, October 14, 2017. This exam is recommended for all college-bound 10th and 11th grade students as practice for the SAT. Only students taking the PSAT as a Junior may be eligible for National Merit Scholarship recognition, so any Junior who took the test last year is highly encouraged to take it again.
Registration for PSAT’s is available through www.mypaymentsplus.com until Sunday October 8, 2017, or until all seats are sold. The cost is $22 per exam. If this is the first time you are using MyPaymentsPlus for any of your students, then you'll need to create a new account; if you have an older sibling and have used MPP before, then you will just need to add the new student to your existing account (you’ll need your student’s school ID to create a new account, or to add a student to an existing account). PSAT Student Guides will be distributed to students through Advisory after your registration is processed. Please be sure to print and save your MyPaymentsPlus PSAT registration confirmation page. If your student does not receive the Student Guide, and you don’t have a printed confirmation page, then your student has not registered for the PSAT. Please contact Mr. Michael Curtis at mcurtis@cbsd.or with any registration issues prior to the deadline.
Financial Aid Night -- The Central Bucks School District Financial Aid Night will take place on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 7:00 pm at CB East in the Auditorium. CB East is located at 2804 Holicong Road, Doylestown, PA 18902. The presenter will be Ms. Bonnie Behm, Director of Financial Assistance at Villanova University. Topics will include types of financial aid, the application process (using the FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid), timelines and deadlines, and tips for comparing offers of aid from various schools. Seniors and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend.
College Visits -- Each day, admission representatives from up to four colleges visit CBW. Juniors and Seniors are highly encouraged to attend the visits for schools they’re interested in learning more about. The representatives who come are typically the ones responsible for reviewing students’ applications, so this in an invaluable opportunity to make a personal connection with that representative. Students should sign up through Naviance (College Tab →View All Upcoming College Visits), and print their confirmation page as their pass. Students may also sign up in the Guidance Office prior to the visit.

Student Activities Fair
We will hold a Student Activities Fair on Tuesday, September 19 during an extended 2nd Block in the Main Gym. Representatives from each of CB West's clubs and student activities will be on hand to share information and answer questions. All students will attend the fair with their 2nd Block class at a designated time. CB West has over 60 clubs and student organizations. These clubs and organizations represent a variety of interests and sponsor a multitude of events. We hope that every student finds at least one club or organization at the fair that inspires him or her to get involved at CB West. Getting involved in extracurricular activities helps students discover new interests, refine their talents, and make new friends.
How to Stay Connected with Student Activities at CB West

On Mondays, we air a live stream broadcast from our TV Studio called “The Black and Gold.” This show highlights information about some of the biggest events and initiatives in our school.
On Fridays, we air episodes of Chatterbux. Chatterbux is a TV show produced by members of the Media Production classes. Chatterbux highlights a variety of aspects of student life here at CB West.

Art 4 Art: CB West Participates in Doylestown Artsfest
CB West’s Art 3 students participated in this year’s Doylestown Arts Festival through an Art 4 Art project. Mrs. Levin’s Art 3 class work in conjunction with CB East, CB South and partnered with CB Cares to put together a tribute to the legacy and music of Art Garfunkel. Garfunkel is scheduled to appear on September 25th at Holicong Middle School for a book signing. These art students hit the canvas running the first week of school by creating images inspired by Simon and Garfunkel song titles on to vinyl records. Their finished pieces were on display in the CB Cares booth during the festival. Two large Art Garfunkel portraits were created as interactive canvases for the public to sign a welcome message for this legendary musician. One of the canvases is now on display in the window of the Doylestown Bookshop. Thank you to Mrs. Levin’s Art 3 class as well as April Schneer and Tenley Mileski for their work on the large canvas portraits!
