Welcome Back!
Norton City Schools is excited to welcome students back for the 2024-2025 school year. Classes for Pre-K and grades 1 through 12 will begin on Tuesday, August 20, while our kindergarten students will start on Monday, August 26. Our dedicated team has been working tirelessly over the summer to prepare our buildings for the return of students and staff members. We encourage families to check the district and building websites for the latest information and updates.
This year, we are thrilled to announce the full implementation of The Panther Way, a district-wide initiative developed with input from students, support staff, teachers, administrators, parents, community members, and participants from the city of Norton. The Panther Way focuses on cultivating traits such as responsibility, perseverance, communication, thinking critically, being adaptable, and contributing to our school and community. Our goal is to provide an outstanding education and develop individuals who will continue to make our community proud.
Be sure to join the school community in kicking off our fall athletic season at the Panther Preview on Saturday, August 10th, at Norton High School. The Panther Preview will begin at 2:00 p.m. Several of our fall athletic teams, along with the Norton High School marching band, participate at this annual event.

Change to District Calendar
Due to a change in requirements from the State of Ohio and the Department of Education and Workforce, the district has had to make adjustments to our calendar. We have added an additional Professional Development Day for staff on October 15, 2024. Our staff will be completing state-required training on that day. Students will have the day off.

Recycle Bin Removal from School District
Several years ago, we entered into an agreement with a recycling company to benefit the community through our recycling efforts. Unfortunately, the bins have become an eyesore and the company has not been diligent in emptying them regularly. Additionally, we no longer receive funds for donations from this program, and there have been concerns about individuals coming onto school property during school hours.
Given these issues and with the city providing an alternative for recycling drop-offs, we will no longer offer bins on school property. The city does offer bins for recycling located in the Columbia Woods area. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding as we strive to maintain clean and safe grounds for Norton.
There is no change to our clothing and shoe donation bin at Norton High School. We are still accepting donations and are thankful for the community's support of clothing.

Ready for Students and Staff
Special thank you to our custodial and maintenance staff for all of their amazing work over the summer. The effort that they put in is nothing short of a miracle. They spend time cleaning, waxing and moving furniture. To put it in perspective, they are doing a summer clean after over 2300 students and staff have lived in the space for ten months. AMAZING!!

Excellence on Full Display
Norton High School is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of its students in recent competitions.
Morgan Hallett has once again demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication by securing her 5th and 6th state championships in early June. Morgan’s consistent performance and hard work have made her a standout athlete in our community, and we celebrate her remarkable accomplishments.
Additionally, our talented Speech and Debate team made a significant impact at the national level. Saige Wilson, Maggie Sommerville, and Hannah Peters represented Norton High School at the Speech and Debate National Competition held in Des Moines, IA, in late June. Each of these students received top ranks in their respective categories, showcasing their exceptional abilities and dedication to excellence in public speaking and debate.
"We are incredibly proud of Morgan, Saige, Maggie, and Hannah," said Mr. Shanor. "Their achievements reflect the hard work, dedication, and talent that define our students at Norton High School. These accomplishments not only bring honor to our school, but also inspire their peers to strive for excellence."
Norton High School continues to support and celebrate the achievements of its students in all areas of competition and academic pursuits. We look forward to seeing their future successes and contributions to our community.
Norton High School Students and Staff on Trip of a Lifetime
Norton High School is thrilled to announce the success of an extraordinary school trip to Japan from June 4-12. Students had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture, history, and traditions of Japan, visiting iconic landmarks, participating in cultural activities, and forging lifelong memories. This educational adventure not only broadened their global perspectives, but also strengthened the bonds within the student community. The trip was an incredible success, leaving students inspired and eager for future explorations.

Technology Exploration
It has been a busy summer in the Technology Department! Fortunately, two of our TWE (Technology Work Experience) students that graduated last year are still helping us out before school starts. We are also in the process of hiring Alaina Cook, a soon to be freshman. Logan Calo and Alyza Walker have been showing Alaina how to do inventory, reconnect equipment once the floors are waxed for the new year, perform Windows updates on existing computers, prepare all of the 3rd and 8th grade Chromebooks, and so much more! We couldn’t possibly get everything done without their help. Meanwhile, they are learning valuable work skills. It’s a win-win for all involved!
For parents and students in grade 5-7 and 9-12, make sure you get those Chromebooks out a few days before school starts and charge them up! Hopefully, you kept them in a safe place with your charger in the sleeve. The 4th graders and 8th graders will receive their Chromebooks prior to school starting at a time and date determined by their building.
Coming new this school year, we plan to roll out text messaging as an additional means of communication from us! There will be more information to come, so keep your eye out for a date of when the opt-in text will be sent to you. We know that many of you would appreciate this type of communication in addition to emails and calls.
