Introducing Nassau BOCES' New District Superintendent
The Nassau BOCES Board of Cooperative Education proudly announces that it has appointed Larry J. Leaven as its new District Superintendent. He assumed responsibility for leading the largest Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in New York State on July 1, 2024, following his June 13 appointment. Get to know Larry as he shares his vision and dedication to empowering students, districts and communities. State of the Agency
Nassau BOCES Deputy Superintendent/Chief Operating Officer James Widmer delivered the annual State of the Agency address at the Robert E. Lupinskie Center for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology on May 23, 2024. Mr. Widmer reviewed Nassau County enrollment trends and new Agency initiatives designed to serve component school districts and their students. Long Island Regional Student Forum Recap Webinar Now Available
More than 100 students from Eastern Suffolk, Western Suffolk and Nassau BOCES attended the Long Island Regional Student Forum on February 29, 2024. The Long Island Regional Student Forum Team presented a Webinar on June 6, 2024, in which the thoughts and views expressed by students through their participation in the Forum were reported. Nassau BOCES Barry Tech Student Takes Second Place at SkillsUSA National Competition
Hyunjun Chang, a Great Neck UFSD and Barry Tech Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement student, took second place in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, GA. Hyunjun earned the silver medal and earned Skills points in the Criminal Justice competition by completing six distinct stations. This year, fifteen students from our CTE high schools earned top honors at the New York State SkillsUSA Conference, with five of those winners earning a place at the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA. Barry Tech schoolmates who also competed at the National Leadership Conference with Hyunjun were Brandon Nanoo, Plainview-Old Bethpage CSD, Electrical Construction Wiring competition; Trendall Storey, Valley Stream CHSD, Interactive Application and Video Game Development competition; and Dominick Fresco, Rockville Centre UFSD, Interactive Application and Video Game Development competition. Trendall and Dominick also earned Skill Points at the national competition, which means that they successfully reached a specific score that was set by the industry partners of their specific trade.

Outdoor and Environmental Education to Host Administrative Retreats
Our Brookville Environmental and Education Center has been renovated to include WiFi, a 65” panel touch screen, heat and air conditioning and new tables and chairs for flexible seating of 30 adults. Outdoor and Environmental Education will host your administrative retreat from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., which includes 1-1/2 hours of teambuilding for $990. Districts can use CoSer 401.510 for the teambuilding and pricing can be flexible based on future reservations. Breakfast and/or lunch can be provided for an additional charge and billed directly to the district. This offer can be used any time of the year and is also available at Caumsett Outdoor and Environmental Education Center. - Highlight the core principles and foundations of the NYSED Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework.
- Offer insights into establishing shared goals and visions and promoting collaboration.
- Address strategies for constructive dialogue with families and community members.

ADHD, Executive Function and Behavioral Challenges in the Classroom, K-12

This workshop gives teachers, guidance counselors and school psychologists an understanding of the social and emotional impact that ADHD and Executive Function challenges have on learning, motivation, behavior and the family system. Upon completing this program, participants will:
- Have a functional and actionable understanding of Executive Function skills and what performance can be expected at different learning levels.
- Learn valuable methods to manage problems with attention, organization, stress, homework completion and test performance based on the latest brain research and evidence-based best practices.
- Discover subtle changes in teaching methods and classroom structure to improve time management, working memory, motivation and emotional regulation that will benefit all children, not only those with ADHD.
