D91 Update Sept 27, 2024
From Superintendent Karla LaOrange
Superintendent's Message
Tomorrow, Skyline High School will host the much anticipated Emotion Bowl, marking the 59th time the Grizzlies and Tigers face off in this thrilling rivalry. As one of the most cherished traditions in our community, the Emotion Bowl is not just about football—it’s about history, pride, and school spirit.
For nearly six decades, this matchup has brought us together, highlighted by the winning team painting the goalposts in their color. However, in an early game, the exuberant, victorious team accidentally knocked over the H-shaped goalpost. Thankfully, this didn’t become a lasting tradition! Instead, new posts were installed, and the tradition of painting them continued.
A memorable moment in this storied rivalry came in 2011 when brothers Jesse and Garret Caudle played for opposing teams. Amid the excitement, these brothers showcased the true spirit of the Emotion Bowl—Garret’s Skyline Grizzlies won, but he honored his older brother Jesse with respect, showing us all what sportsmanship looks like.
With the installation of artificial turf came a slight modification—the goalposts are now positioned away from the field to keep the turf pristine, but the tradition of painting them lives on.
As we gear up for another exciting weekend, the long-standing tradition of the Emotion Bowl is upon us. This Saturday, the Skyline Grizzlies will face off against the Idaho Falls Tigers in what promises to be another memorable chapter in this historic rivalry.
This Saturday let’s support both teams with the respect and enthusiasm this event deserves. Let’s make this year’s Emotion Bowl one to remember—full of energy, positivity, and, most importantly, sportsmanship. As we come together for this iconic event, let’s model good sportsmanship, cheer passionately, and ensure this almost 60-year tradition continues to unite our community.
Go Grizzlies! Go Tigers! Let’s make it a game to remember!
Have a great weekend!

Supporting your Child's Education
Parenting is hard work, and so is learning. Your dedication and effort serve as powerful examples for your child, teaching them that hard work is essential for success. Show your child what it means to study, spend time reading, and go beyond expectations. Your actions demonstrate not only the value of perseverance but also that your child’s success is your priority.
Here are some ways to support your child’s education and lifelong success:
- Create Calm Mornings: Ensure a smooth start to the day by creating a calm morning routine. This will help your child go to school with a positive mindset, ready to learn.
- Stay informed: Take the time to read all communications from school.
Staying informed will help your child be prepared, reduce stress, and help them focus on learning. - Discuss learning: Use car rides or other quiet moments to ask your child about what they’re learning in class. Encouraging regular conversations about their education reinforces their understanding and builds their confidence.
Your involvement in your child's education plays a crucial role in their success both inside and outside the classroom. By modeling hard work, staying informed, and fostering positive habits, you are helping to lay the foundation for their future achievements. Remember, the small moments—like a calm morning or a thoughtful conversation—can have a lasting impact. Together, we can support your child's journey toward lifelong learning and success. Thank you for being an active partner in your child’s education!
Attendance matters
By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of the three signs that a student may drop out of school.
Missing 10 percent, or two days per month, can result in learning loss, missed athletic and social opportunities and disengagement with the school community.

What's Happening Around District 91
Skyline Boys Golf Paint the Pole Blue
In a new tradition this year, the Skyline Boys Golf team painted a golf pole blue after defeating Idaho Falls in the Tiger Grizz Cup this week at Sage Lakes Golf Course. This is the first year that the winning teams had the chance to paint the pole in their colors after a win.
Idaho Falls Girls Win Tiger Grizz Cup
The pole for girls golf is orange. The Idaho Falls girls got the win over Skyline. This new tradition included a tailgate party between the 17th and 18th holes. It was a fun addition to the already exciting Emotion Week activities.

School Board visits CTEC
Great things are happening at D91's Career and Technical Center! The Idaho Falls School District 91 Board of Trustees took a tour this week.
Did you know, CTEC increased its funding by $163,248 over last year? Funding comes from1) number of students enrolled 2) total skill stack and college credits earned and 3) total technical skills exams taken.
CTEC is the 3rd highest paid Career and Tech Center (CTC) in the state!!! Another great example of how students can do more with D91.
