Issue #8 - November 6, 2022
A Word From Mrs. Loor
Dear Franklin Families,
Wow! What a fantastic afternoon we had for our Halloween parade and class parties! Thank you so much for your cooperation with filling out the dismissal form and for all the parent volunteers who provided our students with fun party activities. I had a little contest going amongst the staff for the best team costume and the winners were the 2nd grade Super Spelling Bees! To view all the staff costumes, click here!
As we move into this month of gratitude, I want to express how thankful I am to be a part of our amazing school community. I truly appreciate the warm welcome this fall. In that spirit, I would also like to keep the lines of communication open between us. You are invited to attend another session of Coffee and Conversation, which will be held virtually on Tuesday, November 22nd at 5 pm. If you'd like to attend, please fill out this form by Friday, November 18th. In the form, you have the opportunity to suggest topics to discuss that are for the good of the order, not class or child specific.
Lastly, passing along some information from our health/P.E. department, the annual elementary Cross Country Fun Run will take place on Monday, 11/7 at 1:15pm at Memorial Park in Summit (rain date: Wed 11/9). This is event is organized by the district's P.E. teachers.
Enjoy the long weekend!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor
General Reminders
- If your child will not be in school this week, please email or call Mrs. Napoles. This is very helpful when we're doing attendance.
- Children should not be bringing toys, Pokemon cards, etc to school unless it is for a specific school-related activity such as a special share day. It is causing some unnecessary conflicts during lunch/recess and we will not be responsible for personal items of value.
- When you are picking up your child, please do not park directly across the street from the school between Blackburn Place and Warwick Road. The staff parking lot is also only for staff and service vehicles. Please be mindful of parking on the streets close to crosswalks. The safety of our walkers is a priority.
- Any forgotten items that need to be dropped off must be labeled with the child's name and teacher's name and left on the table in the security vestibule past the front entrance.
- Please note that there is no signing in when your child is late or leaving early. Please wait for your child outside of the main office doors.

Thank you to the Franklin community for all of your candy donations. I’m sure there were some difficult decisions over what to keep and what to share!
The Candy Drive and Food Drive Kindness Crew teams have been hard at work advertising, collecting, and sorting through donations. Please note you can still send your candy contributions along with any non-perishable food items this week. All donations will go to Grace’s Pantry during the week of November 13.
Students have also been enjoying our Read with the Dogs program with special guests, Ms. Stochaj and Bart and Mrs. Tierney and Mulligan!
For questions related to any of the library programs, please contact Mrs. Mills at jmills@summit.k12.nj.us.
Counselor's Corner
As Mrs. Loor mentioned in last week's 411, our awesome 5th grade students have been volunteering to read the morning announcements each day. They have been doing such an incredible job sharing fun facts, informing the school of important holidays, wishing students and staff happy birthdays, and even telling jokes!
On Fridays, students have been playing snippets of a song of their choice to start everyone's day off on a positive and energetic note. As we come to the end of our 5th grade rotation, I just want to say how proud I am of all of our volunteers for committing to this often nerve racking task, and allowing their personalities to shine bright. Thank you to all who have participated; you rock! 🌟
For any questions regarding our counseling program, please contact Ms. Audino, our school counselor. Her email is laudino@summit.k12.nj.us.
