This newsletter comes to us from our Assistant Principal & Athletic Director, Darryl Loring, who oversees all of the different extra- and co-curricular offerings at JFDS. There is an activity for every interest, and we are always looking for new clubs to start!
Did you know that last year JFDS offered 18 competitive sports teams and over 35 clubs and musical groups?
Cyr Bus offers a late bus every Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday so that students can stay for clubs or stay after for academic support. Students who are normally walkers can take the late bus as well.
Here is just a sampling of clubs and activites that are already running this school year:

This club is run in an open Art Studio format so students arrive with ideas and enjoy the time, art supplies, and support from the art teacher to help them as needed. It is a beautiful thing to see students working creatively and collaboratively and exploring their ideas. We have had students making sculptures with cardboard, using a variety of materials to create masks, building jewelry, drawing original characters, and exploring drawing prompts. Art Club runs on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4PM and students sign up to attend outside the art room.

Morning music programs started in mid-September. Band meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays, while Chorus and Orchestra meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
Interested in joining a musical group? Stop in and see Mr. Gebhart (Band), Mrs. Cousins (Chorus), or Mr. Bell (Orchestra).

The cross country season ended this week and was a tremendous success. Each of the 17 members of the team improved their time over the course of the season, and many earned recognitions and ribbons along the way. Mrs. Kenniston is the coach of the cross country team.

Students in the JFDS Garden club have worked hard this Fall to harvest the vegetables that were started last Spring. More recently, they have expanded the garden and built three more garden boxes. Many of our vegetables have made it into our school kitchen. Many students and teachers support the graden during classes. Garden Club meets on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4PM.

All students must have physical on file in the office prior to tryouts.
All students must have a Extra-Curricular Activity & Athletic Consent form on file in the office prior to tryouts.
All students must complete SWAY testing prior to tryouts.

The good news is - if your child played a fall sport, they already have all of that done.
Wondering if your child is missing anything? Give us a call in the main office (941-6220).

Sign ups for tryouts will be during AM Homeroom on Tuesday, November 5th.
Basketball and Cheering Tryouts will be on: Tuesday, November 12th, Wednesday, November 13th, & Thursday, November 14th.
