IMPORTANT NEWS
Where I'm From - Perla Hamouda
I was gifted with a stack of poems last week from Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Johnson.
They are beautiful, real, and poignant poems by our very own Eagles. For the next few weeks, I will share one each week.
They all start with the same phrase, "I am From..." and paint a picture of each poet, their roots, traditions and treasures.
This week's share if from senior, Perla Hamouda.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Back to School Night - Thursday, 9/5
Eagles!
This Thursday, Sept. 5 is Back to School Night for JGHS and SEA. To ensure families and teachers have enough time to travel between both sites, we will start classroom visits at 6:00pm and have 7 min passing periods. Please see the schedule below.
From 5:30pm-6:pm, we will have tabling in the 300 hub to showcase our partners and the services they provide to JGHS students and families.
On Tuesday, Sept. 4, students will receive BTSN Family Letters that will have the schedule and a place for them to fill in their classes and room numbers. If you have any questions, please reach out at 562-210-3000.
Student Spotlight - Erik Martinez, JGHS C/O 2025
This week we are spotlighting Erik Martinez, a proud senior Eagle at John Glenn High School. Erik is a member of both the JGHS Robotics Club and Boys Wrestling Team. He is enrolled in the TCAP Pathway, as well as AP Computer Science A and a dual enrollment Spanish class through Cerritos College. Erik said the Eagles around him have been high achieving, and this made him want to work as hard as possible, to beat his own past accomplishments, and move forward with a vision for his future. He sees the best vision of himself as hard working and aims to be a mechanical engineer after graduating from Glenn.
Erik stated, "Robotics taught me that I love to build things" and that, "the accomplishments of winning after all the hard work really pays off."
Erik is proud to be a John Glenn Eagle. He said in middle school he was unfocused, but when he got to Glenn, "I felt like I belonged here and it made me want to do something. Wrestling taught me life skills and how to become better. The people around me motivated me." Notably, Erik mentioned teachers who have inspired and pushed him to be better, such as Mr. Franco, Ms. Norman, Mr. Parra, and Mr. Sul.
Erik's counselor, Mr. Castaños said, "I so appreciate Erik. I have witnessed his ability to overcome obstacles, and his commitment to advocate for himself. Erik has faced challenges throughout his academic journey, yet he consistently demonstrates resilience and determination. Rather than allowing himself to be limited by obstacles, he has embraced them as opportunities to grow. His willingness to help others is one of the strongest marks of his character and integrity, making him a great example and influence within our John Glenn community. Keep up the good work, Brother!"
Congratulations on all you have accomplished through hard work and determination, Erik. We know you have a bright future ahead! Glenn Eagles Soar!

ATHLETICS
Student Athlete Profile
Student Athlete Profile: Kentigi Adams, Cesar Castillo
How long have you been playing football ?
Cesar: I would say close to six years now. I played in middle school, but I also played for Artesia my Freshman year. Right now though I’m playing linebacker, strong safety, and even running back.
Kentigi: I’ve also been playing since middle school in the 6th grade. But this is my first year playing high school football, my last and final senior year. I mostly play offensive tackle and tight-end.
What is your favorite football memory so far?
Cesar: For me it would be every win and we all just come together as a team. The practices are so much fun, we put in the work, but also have a great time.
Kentigi: Definitely when we won our first game against Bassett HS. The energy was great, it was positive vibes all the way around.
What are your plans for after high school?
Kentigi: I want to go into the medical field, but also want to join the military, the US Navy. I’m aiming to be a Certified Military Nurse (registered).
Cesar: I’m going to join the Navy and become a combat medic.
Who is your favorite teacher?
Kentigi: That would be Master Sargent Allard. He is someone you can always ask for advice and look up to.
Cesar: For me it would be Mr. Barr. He is very understanding and he is someone you can always trust.
