Old Coors Elementary Pre K-4
Week of March 18

FROM PRINCIPAL JONES
Hello, MAS Families!
Welcome to 2025! I’d like to start this month’s newsletter with a quote:
"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you." ~ B.B. King (American blues guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer)
This quote reminds us of the value and permanence of education. At MAS, we work diligently to provide students with knowledge and skills that will stay with them forever. We deeply value the opportunity to shape their futures alongside you.
In the next section, you’ll find ways to support your students and their teachers in making learning meaningful and lasting.
Sincerely,
Mr. Chris Jones, MS, M.Ed.
Elementary School Leader
MAS Old Coors Campus
Your Involvement is Requested
At MAS Charter School, we are committed to fostering an environment where every child thrives academically, socially, and emotionally. Your involvement makes a tremendous impact! Here are some ways to support your child’s success:
- Nurturing: Your relationship with your student shapes how they interact with their MAS peers, educators, and staff. I always remind myself that I GET to be a dad to my daughters, rather than thinking I HAVE to be one.
- Nutrition: Proper nutrition fuels learning, regulates mood, and supports a strong immune system. Please ensure your student eats balanced meals at home to help stay focused in school.
- Sleep: Sleep is essential for memory, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. School-age children need 9–13 hours of sleep per night. Help your child by establishing a consistent bedtime routine.
- Attendance: Regular attendance at school is linked to higher academic achievement. Even the best teachers can’t be effective if students aren’t present every day.
- Discipline: I’d like your help in speaking with your student about the importance of seeking adult assistance when facing conflict. It’s so important that students report issues with peers before taking matters into their own hands and reacting aggressively — whether verbally or physically. If a student does react aggressively, disciplinary consequences are mandatory per the MAS Student Handbook. Please remind your student to ask a teacher for help when facing a challenging situation or come directly to me — Mr. Jones — so I can investigate and help mediate any issues that may arise.
Important Reminders
Please note the following reminders about snacks, wheeled shoes, school uniforms, and hallway safety:
- Snacks: Bags of chips larger than a personal/snack size are prohibited here at MAS Charter School, as they can lead to students skipping their meals and causing conflicts.
- Wheeled Shoes: Roller skate shoes are not allowed at MAS Charter School due to safety concerns. If these are your child’s only shoes, please remove the wheels before school.
- Uniforms: Only MAS-issued uniform apparel is permitted. Please make sure your child wears the correct uniform daily.
- Hallway Safety: Running in the hallways has become an issue. Please remind your child to walk and be mindful of their surroundings to prevent injuries.
