How Parents Can Help a Child Who is Being Bullied
No child should ever have to worry about being bullied at school. School staff members are always working with students to teach them the right way to treat others and how to handle conflicts that come up. Bullying is defined as any intentional and repeated mean look, gesture, word or action that hurts a person’s body, feelings, friendships, reputation or property. If your child tells you that another student is bullying them at school, you can help by doing several things.
Never tell a child to fight back. This provokes the bully to further attack and could lead to serious injury.
Contact the teacher, principal or school counselor to explain what has been happening and ask for help. Write down exactly what you know has happened including who was involved, where it took place, when and how often it has happened, and the names of any witnesses.
Tell your child how important it is to report a bully. It is not the same as tattling. Help your child to report it and follow up to make sure the bullying has stopped.
Compliment your child on their strengths and thank him/her for telling you about their problems. When parents really listen to their children, they have a better opportunity to find out what is really happening in their lives away from home.

OPS Seeks Applicants for Reproductive Health Education Advisory Board
Otsego Public Schools is inviting parents and community members to apply for membership on the Reproductive Health Education Advisory Board. We are seeking individuals who are interested in contributing to this important initiative and can offer a broad perspective that reflects the diversity of our district.
To ensure a well-rounded board, membership must include parents of students attending the district’s schools, educators, local clergy, and community health professionals. While we already have a Reproductive Health Education Advisory Board in place, we are looking to fill additional openings in accordance with the criteria outlined above.
Please note that not everyone who applies will be selected, but we are committed to forming a board that accurately represents our community. If you're interested, please complete the application by using the link below. Applications will be accepted until April 18, 2025. The district will notify applicants about the status of their submission.
For any questions, please contact Jeff Haase, Superintendent of Schools. Application Link
