LMS Weekly Newsletter
June 9, 2024
Dear LMS Families,
We have a busy week ahead after leaving a busy week behind us...our 8th graders went to OSU and Oaks Park, rounding out the full week by losing to staff in the staff v. student basketball game on Friday. We had our band and choir concert as well, and our students (as always) did us proud with their performances!
Now we are entering our final week of the school year and there are a LOT of big feelings. It's tough to say goodbye, even if it is just for a few months. Remember that summer programming will be running in our building so take a moment to check out the forms below from Will Grebner. I'll send one more newsletter next Sunday to close out the year with some information about summer hours and some notes on next year.
This week we have a 6th grade field trip and LOTS of 8th grade activities to prepare them for promotion on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. We can't wait to celebrate our incredible 8th graders and their accomplishments! Please note that 8th graders should arrive by 5:30 p.m. and all other students may not attend unless accompanied by an adult. We will have refreshments following the ceremony, and it may be warm in the gym so please wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle if you are able.
We are still hoping to collect the last Chromebooks that remain out there in the world - please look under couches and in closets to find them! Remember that there are fees for lost Chromebooks and chargers that will be assessed if they aren't returned. We are making great progress - thank you Ms. Raspone for doing this important work to get devices ready for next year!
Take a deep breath in...let it out. We are about to turn the page on this school year and it can be super overwhelming when you think about how fast time is going. This fall, instead of one of my kids going off to college there will be two, and only one remaining in our home and in high school. I feel like it was just yesterday we were starting preschool and kindergarten. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by change, even as adults; I hope you are able to enjoy the moments and take it all in.
We look forward to celebrating with you this week!
Warmly,
Rosemarie El Youssef

We will be offering a four week program, M-Th from July 8- August 1st, 9-3, with sports, art, games, and off campus adventures open to all rising 6th-9th graders in our area. We will offer a free breakfast and lunch for students, but please note there is NO SUN BUS. We hope to see your student there!
LMS 8th grade DC/NY 2024 Travel update
We are sending 17 students, with teacher and parent chaperones, to DC and NY for the optional 8th-grade field trip. We are so excited that our students will represent LMS at our Nation's Capital and will have the chance to tour New York City.
A big shout out and thank you to the LMS PTA, Lande Middle School Alumni, OHSU, Brentwood Darlington Neighborhood Association, families, staff, and LMS teachers for contributing $5,100 in scholarship and equity funding for the 2024 DC/NY 8th grade trip. Thank you for bridging the gap!
Through their travel opportunity, students will receive a 0.5-semester high school credit. They will create an Essential Question and produce a 5-7-minute video from their tour to show their knowledge.
We look forward to sharing our their stories with you!
