Message from the Principal
Dear Otay Ranch High School Community,
Welcome back to another exciting school year! As we embark on this new journey together, I am thrilled to see our campus buzzing with energy and enthusiasm once again.
At Otay Ranch High School, we hold steadfast to our core values of Belonging, Learning, Unity, and Empathy—B.L.U.E. These values are the foundation of our vibrant school community and guide everything we do. Belonging reminds us that every student, staff member, and family is an integral part of our school. Learning is our collective mission, inspiring us to strive for academic excellence and personal growth. This year, we are committed to continuing our tradition of excellence and creating an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential. We have many exciting programs, activities, and opportunities planned, and I encourage each of you to get involved, stay curious, and embrace the spirit of B.L.U.E.
The first day of school for our students is Wednesday July 24, 2024. The first two days of school will be regular block days, with Wednesday being periods 1, 2, 3, ELP 1 and Thursday 4, 5, 6, ELP 4. Friday July 26, 2024 we will be on a special schedule for our "No-Backpack Day". On this day, we ask that students leave all their school supplies, including laptops at home, hence the name "No-Backpack Day".

Accessing your class schedule...
All students will be able to access their schedules through the Infinite Campus Portal after 3 pm on July 23. Students will report to their 1st period class on Wednesday and receive a physical locator card/class schedule. If you are unable to access your schedule on Infinite Campus, there will be student directory posters with QR codes in the school pavilion, library, and near the 400 rodeo. Staff members will also be available to help you find your 1st period class at each of the three locations.
How students can access their schedule through Infinite Campus...
Student schedules MAY CHANGE. Please make sure that you CHECK your class schedule again on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning before proceeding to your first period class. Counselors continue to make changes to meet certain requirements. The physical locator card students will receive in their first period class will be the most accurate schedule that matches what is in Infinite Campus.

When does school start?
School begins on Wednesday, July 24. The first day of school will be periods 1, 2, 3 with ELP 1. Please plan to arrive early as we expect particularly heavy traffic the first week of school. Please drop students off only in the gym parking lot off of Santa Victoria or the Stadium Parking lot off of Olympic Parkway.

When will my child obtain their class schedule?

What does my child need to bring to school?
Your child should bring a backpack, basic notebook, pencil, and pen. Each teacher will provide the students with a syllabus and a list of school supplies recommended for the semester.
When will my child receive books and a device?
Many 9th grade students picked up their computer during Summer at the Ranch. If your child still needs an electronic device, the library will be distributing the devices on July 29 and July 30 through English classes. Most textbooks are accessible via the Internet and will be available on your child's electronic device. Textbook distribution will begin during the second week of school during each respective class that requires a hardcopy text.

What is the typical school bell schedule?
The typical school schedule has a start time of 8:30 AM and an end time of 3:40 PM Tuesday thru Friday. Mondays are pro-hour full menu (periods 1-6) days from 8:30 AM to 2:35 PM.
What does the typical block schedule look like?
- Block schedule Tuesday through Friday
- Each class is 106 minutes
- There is a nutrition break between the first and second period of the day.
- There is a lunch break between our Extended Learning Period (ELP) and the last period of the day.
- ELP is on a rotating schedule where students can get additional support from their teacher.

What is Period 0 and how do I know if my child has Period 0 (zero)?
Period 0 is a class that meets Tuesday-Friday from 7:00 AM until 8:23 AM. There is only ONE class offered during Period 0 during this school year--Marching Band. Students enrolled in Marching Band have been made aware of this.
Unless enrolled in Marching Band, all students will start Period 1 at 8:30 AM.
Can I park on campus?
Licensed student drivers are allowed to park on campus in the gym and stadium parking lots. There is no fee however students must register their vehicle with the ASB to receive a parking permit. Additional information regarding parking permits will be communicated over the next few weeks. During the school day, students are not allowed to go to the parking lot for any reason. Any student leaving campus must have an off-campus pass.

Can I change my child’s classes or teachers?
Please note that no class changes will be made except to correct an error such as duplicate classes, incorrect level placement, or a missing class on the first day. The current schedules are tentative and subject to change. Students can request a class change beginning July 24 using the ORHS SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUEST Google Form. Requests for a teacher change or period change will not be granted.

Student Parking Registration
Mustangs,
To increase our efforts in ensuring the safety of our campus, we began issuing student parking permits at the ASB Finance windows (the ones that face the main office).
In order to get a parking permit, you will need to fill out the following registration form: Parking Permit Registration
(You must sign in with your Student Google Account)
After the form is completely filled out, you may come to the Finance windows and show your Valid Driver License. You will then be issued a parking permit that must be hung on your rear view mirror anytime you park on campus.
After a two week grace period, any car parked in student parking lots without a student parking permit will be subject to be being towed at the owner’s expense.
