The Week at a Glance
Good Evening Westlake Families,
Last week's Spirit Week and Homecoming Week were incredible. Student participation was high each day of Spirit Week, but Friday (Y2K Day) was epic. Students took us back to the days of baggy jeans, through back jerseys, and I saw someone wearing a Freaknik 95 shirt. It was so good to see students enjoying themselves. Westlake Football continues to dominate on the grid iron lifting the school spirit to new heights. Assistant Principal Ms. Oliver coordinated a lunchroom take-over to end Spirit Week!! This week's newsletter includes many videos and pictures of the events that took place during Spirit/Homecoming Week.
This upcoming week, students will be pushed to fully engage in all lessons as we begin digging deeper into the curriculum by working through Unit 2 in most courses. Parents please check Infinite Campus each week and look into your student's TEAMS to see outstanding assignments. Each week all 9th, 10th, and 11th students must complete a total of three Achieve 3000 assignments, one per subject in ELA, Science, and Social Studies. Achieve 3000 assignments should be complete each Thursday by midnight.
We have so many things to shout out this week, below are this week's top 5:
Shout Out # 1: Westlake SGA, Westlake Magnet Booster Club, and Westlake Homecoming Committee All 3 organizations worked to give Westlake High School students an awesome Homecoming Spirit Week, Homecoming Dance, and an outstanding Homecoming Ceremony/Pageant. Their collaboration is the epitome of OneWestlake!!
Shout Out #2: Westlake Band: The Westlake Marching Lions and Blue Reighn have been chosen to participate in this year’s 80th McDonald’s Magic City Classic Parade, on Saturday, October 30, 2021, to kick off the Magic City Classic of the face-off of Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University. #TheArtsMatter #TheMusic

Shout Out #4: Westlake Orchestra: Westlake High School Orchestra students are invited to play the National Anthem during the Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers Football Game Sunday, October 31, 2021, 1:00 PM at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium! Please tune in or get to the game early to support our musicians. Also, we will be cheering for #24 AJ Terrell Westlake Alumn. #TheArtsMatter #TheMusic
Shout Out #5: Westlake Faculty and Staff Words can not express how grateful we are for your resilience, faithfulness, and dedication to excellence during these uncertain times. #TeachersMatter
Parents, please be prepared for most school games and school events to be sold out until the Covid-19 positive spread rate is below 500 in South Fulton. The Fulton County Schools' Mitigation Matrix is driven by the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the municipality. Case levels are reported according to municipal boundaries within Fulton County and can be found in the weekly Fulton County Board of Health Epidemiology Report. For more information, please visit: https://www.fultonschools.org/14daytrend
Please continue to employ practices to contain the level of infection in our communities, like physical distancing and frequent hand washing, which help keep our students and schools safe and focused on learning. Be sure to report any positive cases through the employee or parent portal. Below is a video to explain the Mitigation Matrix in greater detail.
Should you have any questions or concerns at any point this school year, please do not hesitate to call, email, or come in to see me.
Kind Regards,
Jarvis I. Adams, Principal

Attention ALL WHS Students
National Voter Registration Day is almost here!
We are pleased to announce the start of Westlake’s chapter of the When We All Vote Student (WWAVS) Program! This program was founded by Michelle Obama in 2019 to encourage teen participation in state, senate, and congressional elections and raise awareness of civil voting rights. Did you know youth ranging from ages 18 to 29 makeup at least 20% of eligible voters and are also able to register to vote at 17 1/2 years old? Did you also know at least 80 electoral college votes depend on the voices of the youth? Since 2018, there has been a rise in youth activism, civic responsibility, and engagement. The best way to get involved is to have an interest, register, spread the word, and vote. Westlake will host our voter registration drive in partnership with The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Epsilon Omega Chapter on Tuesday, September 28th, National Voting Registration Day. There will also be flyers posted around the school with QR codes to become involved in the WWAVS chapter and Voting Registration Day. For more information, contact Devyn Storms (WHS Senior), president of Westlake’s When We All Vote chapter or Señorita Wilson in room 551.

COVID-19 Coronavirus Updates
At Fulton County Schools, we work daily to ensure the health and well-being of our students and staff in the midst of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Here is the key info you need to know:
Student Discipline Update
Dear Parent and School Community,
This was not a good week in regards to student suspensions. Twelve students were suspended for 10 days of Out School Suspension for a group fight, one student suspended for 10 days of Out School Suspension and arrested for making a threat, other students were received days of In-School Suspension for skipping class and tardiness. Any student that violates a Tier 3 or Tier 4 infraction of the FCS Student Code of Contact that warrants 10 days Out School Suspension will be referred to a tribunal hearing with the FCS Office of Student Discipline to determine student placement for the remainder of the school year.
We have been made aware of a social media challenge that students across the nation and here in our school system have been engaging in that promotes the destruction, vandalism, and/or theft of school property (e.g. hand sanitizers, clocks, hand dryers, fire extinguishers, etc.) as well as the posting of these items on social media platforms such as Tik Tok and Snapchat. These acts of vandalism and theft compromise the health and safety of our students and staff.
Please be advised that this behavior is a serious Student Code of Conduct infraction and very possibly, a criminal offense. Potential Student Code of Conduct infractions can include but are not limited to, theft, unauthorized entry/trespassing, and vandalism. This is a serious matter and any student found to be engaging in theft or destruction of school property will receive the most severe consequence response possible under the Student Code of Conduct as well as criminal charges where appropriate and applicable. Student Code of Conduct consequences ranges from up to 10 days of out-of-school suspension and a referral for a hearing which could result in a long-term suspension or expulsion from the Fulton County School System.
FCS is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all of our students and staff and we very much appreciate you discussing this concern with your student(s).
