IMPORTANT REMINDERS FROM THE NURSE
- All classes have the opportunity to eat a healthy snack at some point during the day. Be sure your child has a snack each day.
- When sending a snack to be shared with the whole class, please refer to the SAFE SNACK list. Only those brands and kinds listed here are allowed for shared snacks.
- We are here to help all students stay safe and healthy, however, some students visit the nurse daily and are missing important instruction in the classroom. Please talk with your child about appropriate times to visit the nurse.
- We are getting low on our change of clothes. We know that accidents happen --wet, muddy playground, spilled milk, etc. Please consider sending a change of clothes with your child to keep in their locker.
- If you ever have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out!
- When your child is sick, please keep them at home.
- Fever greater than 100.4 degrees: You must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil).
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea (watery stools): You must not have vomited or had diarrhea in the last 24 hours.
- Strep throat or disease that requires antibiotics: You must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
Absences / Attendance Policy
The new attendance law in Iowa is an initiative to reduce absenteeism, as missing too much school can negatively impact academic performance and long-term outcomes for students. As a school, we will be following the state guidelines on this new law. If your student has a doctor's appointment, please get a note.
Please click this link to access Mr. Stutting's video explanation.
With the passing of Senate File 2435 and changes to Iowa Code Chapter 299 Compulsory Education, we want to provide you with our updated procedures for responding to student absenteeism.
5 days of absences (5% of a semester): A courtesy letter will be emailed to inform caregivers of excessive absences.
9 days of absences (10% of a semester): The state defines this 10% mark as "chronically absent." An email and certified letter will be sent to caregivers to notify them of "chronically absent" status and the county attorney's office will be notified.
14 days of absences (15% of a semester): The school will contact caregivers to schedule a required School Engagement Meeting, where an Absenteeism Prevention Plan will be created.
18 days of absences (20% of a semester): The state defines this 20% mark as "truant." The school will notify the School Resource Officer, who will consult with the county attorney's office. Truancy charges may be filed.
From Mr. Stutting's October 7 Communication:
North Scott will be aligning our attendance codes with state recommendations to ensure student absences are calculated accurately and in accordance with SF 2435. These codes are included below, and you will begin seeing these changes in Infinite Campus soon. If you have any questions, please contact your building principal.
Dropping students off before school
Please follow the procedures below.
When dropping off in the morning, please do not park in the drop off lane if you are needing to come into school. Parked cars impede the flow of traffic.
When one car turns around early or parks in the wrong spot, traffic gets backed up even more than it already does. PLEASE do not have your student cross the parking lot in any other space than the cross walk. With all the vehicles and students, it can be difficult to see little ones.
When an adult asks you to follow these, it is to keep the students safe.
Fridays
Fridays students are released at 1pm.
**School goes from 7:55am - 3pm (doors open at 7:30)
**Breakfast runs from 7:30am - 7:55am

Important Transportation Update for Parents/Guardians
To ensure the safety and efficiency of our school transportation system, students are required to ride only the bus they are assigned to. This policy helps us maintain accurate attendance and ensure that every student arrives home safely.
Exceptions can be made for consistent changes related to childcare needs on early release days. If your child requires a permanent change to their bus route due to a regular childcare arrangement, please contact Derek Hamilton, Transportation Supervisor at 563-285-9801 to discuss these accommodations. All requests must be arranged in advance.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep all students safe.
