Week in Review
It has been a great week at Columbus. Mrs. Cotrone’s recent character education lessons focused on being a communicator, one of our district's qualities of a learner. The lesson taught the meaning of self-awareness and encouraged students to reflect on themselves, their traits, and ways to communicate their needs. Students did self-awareness checks throughout the lesson such as identifying how their bodies respond when they have conflicts or stress, what triggers cause them to feel this way, they are a verbal or non-verbal communicator? Students became more self-aware as they identified specific coping skills to help them when these stressors occur. Students learned the importance of communicating their needs when they have problems and a variety of ways to communicate those needs. Every week a wide variety of learning activities take place in all of our classrooms that foster our Portrait of a Learner. Communication, collaboration, and problem solving are the foundation of our student's daily learning. This past Wednesday was World Kindness Day. Students engaged in a variety of activities in the classroom to recognize the importance of kindness. Please make sure you scroll to the bottom of the newsletter each week for important announcements and pictures/videos in the Around Columbus section.
