Counselors Corner
Dear Brimfield Families,
Today we will be focusing on mindfulness. Mindfulness means paying full attention to the present moment with an open and calm mind. It is about being aware of how we are feeling, noticing what's around us, and taking a moment to breathe and relax. Mindfulness can help us manage stress, focus better, and feel more positive.
Here are some key benefits of mindfulness:
- Reduces Stress and Worries: Mindfulness helps us stay calm and manage big emotions.
- Improves Focus: When we practice mindfulness, we can better concentrate on our learning.
- Promotes Kindness: Mindfulness encourages us to be kind to ourselves and others.
- Improves Health: It can help with better sleep, less anxiety, and feeling happier!
Ways to practice mindfulness can be done through activities like breathing exercises, mindful movement, and short moments of quiet reflection. We encourage families to try some mindfulness exercises at home, too!
We believe mindfulness will help us all have a happier and more focused school year.
Thank you for supporting this practice!
Warmly,
Mr. Berry

Disability Inclusion Day
Disability Inclusion Day Announcement
We would like to share important information regarding Disability Inclusion Day, which will be observed on Monday, March 3rd.
All staff and students are encouraged to wear ORANGE to demonstrate their support for disability inclusion.
Inclusion means sharing experiences and embracing each other's differences. Let’s show our support by wearing orange and making our school a welcoming place for everyone. Thank you for being part of this important day!
Thank you for being so supportive in promoting an inclusive environment.
History of the Event
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month's origins date back to 1987, when President Ronald Reagan officially declared the observance. Since then, organizations, advocates, and communities have come together annually to promote understanding, inclusion, and the rights of individuals with developmental disabilities, aiming for a more inclusive society.
Back by popular demand, Summit DD and the Akron Zoo have partnered for Inclusion Days at the Zoo, in celebration of March DD Awareness Month. Admission & parking are FREE this year for all visitors wearing orange (the color of inclusion) March 1-3, 2025! (We’ve included the weekend BEFORE Inclusion Day to increase the fun!) See the Zoo’s website for winter hours.
Summit DD is teaming up with We Rock the Spectrum Stow for DD Awareness Month 2025! Stop by We Rock the Spectrum Stow during the week of March 9 – 15 for some DD Awareness Month fun. Visitors wearing ORANGE will receive $2.00 off their admission.
Visit We Rock The Spectrum’s website for location, hours, and admission information.
Thank you!Jay Casamento

PBIS
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach designed to foster a positive school climate by encouraging appropriate behavior. It focuses on teaching and reinforcing clear behavioral expectations in a consistent and structured way. PBIS emphasizes prevention rather than punishment, using data to identify and support students who may need additional help. By recognizing and rewarding positive behavior, PBIS aims to improve student engagement, reduce disciplinary issues, and create a more inclusive, respectful learning environment where all students can thrive academically and socially.
At Brimfield Elementary, students help to identify positive expectations and receive incentives for appropriate behavior. Your child may be chosen to participate in the Principal’s Club, receive a red SOAR ticket, or earn a Principal’s Good News call. The staff at Brimfield works hard to use positive words with students. Instead of telling a child to “stop running” in the hallway, the direction might be to “move throughout the halls in a controlled and safe manner”. Thank you, in advance, for partnering with us and using positive statements with your child. We are very proud of our PBIS program and look forward to celebrating the great behavior of our young Falcons!
