Miller Weekly Update
Week of June 9, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Miller School Community,
I can't believe this is the last full week of the school year. Time certainly flew by, but I know our students made great progress this year thanks to our dedicated faculty and staff. As a reminder, next week students will have half days of school on June 18th-June 20th, with the school year concluding on Thursday, June 20th. I hope everyone has a great weekend and Happy Father's Day to all fathers.
Jim Battersby
Principal

Student Achievement
Learning About Our Government
After learning about the federal, state, and local governments and citizen's rights and responsibilities, the students in Ms. Ims's class worked collaboratively to create posters displaying everything they learned while tapping into their creative sides.
Story Time
After reading the story, One Plastic Bag: Isatou Ceesay and the Recycling Women of the Gambia, by Miranda Paul, the student in Ms. Bower and Ms. Ims’s ELA class were tasked with transforming one plastic bag into something useful. Groups created kites, stuffed animals, wind socks, puppets, and backpacks to name a few.
STEAM
STEAM students use their imagination to create an ending to the Iron Man story. They created a cardboard Iron Man and then programmed the micro:bit, a tiny computer, to enhance their story. Most of the students programmed the micro:bit to have blinking red eyes and display a message. Students presented them to selected classrooms. I want to thank the teachers for allowing the STEAM students to present theirs.
Climate and Culture
Glow Day!
Mrs. Sutor and Mrs. Li's classes took part in a Glow Day! Students wore neon or white shirts and glow necklaces, bracelets, and glow in the dark tattoos. The classrooms were lit only by black lights. Activities included math dice games, multiplication war, math tic tac toe, painting, and other team work games with glow in the dark supplies! It was a fun way to work together and use our math skills!
Students in Mrs. Catania and Ms. Nagle’s class celebrated the end of fourth grade with a glow day. Students worked in literacy centers under glowing neon decorations. Face painting and a dance party helped wrap up a fun day for all!
