Please see the attachment below for the daily themes.
STORYBOOK CHARACTER PARADE - 11/1
On Friday, November 1st, students will dress as a character they admire from a children's book. Start encouraging your child to choose a book, read it, and start working on an appropriate costume. Students will wear their costume and carry the book for the storybook parade. Please do not wear scary costumes, masks, or bring play weapons.
We would like to welcome our parents to view the Storybook Character Parade outside, between 8:30 am - 8:45 am (start time begins as soon as all students are in place). Parents will line up outside and all students and teachers will parade around the route for you to view and take pictures.
GT REFERRALS - DUE BY 12/19
Referral requests are now open for the Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or campus staff. It is recommended that parents of 2 nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher. Referrals will be accepted October 1- December 19, 2024. You can click below for the referral form, or request a form from the front office. Contact Assistant Principal, Veronica Kiesz at vkiesz@conroeisd.net or 281-298-4700 if you have any questions. More information can also be found on the CISD GT homepage: https://www.conroeisd.net/department/tl/gifted-talented/

FRIENDLY REMINDERS
PARENT PORTAL
We are looking forward to a great school year. In an effort to help our parents, we are moving to a Parent Portal for parents to access information about their child. You will login similar to the way your child does for school (similar to the SSO) to access school information. All parents/guardians will need to enroll to create an account. You will need the email address that is in your child’s record. Once you enter the email, you will be prompted to create a password.
Please click Parent Portal Directions for instructions or go to Conroe ISD Webpage then Parents/Students to access the link to the Parent Portal.
We hope that you enjoy this transition to a new and convenient platform.
2024-2025 MEAL CHARGE GUIDELINES
Conroe ISD offers students breakfast and lunch at school. If you want your child to access this service, you will need to deposit and maintain funds in your child’s school lunch account through My School Bucks.
If your child’s meal account balance is insufficient or depleted, he or she may “charge” up to 15-days before meal service is modified or stopped. Once the 15-day limit is exceeded and the account has not been replenished, students in elementary and intermediate school will receive a breakfast of milk and cereal and a sandwich and milk for lunch.
If there is an extenuating circumstance, contact your student’s counselor or principal to discuss options that may be available. If you qualify, complete, on-line, a Free/Reduced Lunch Application.
VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS
We love to have parents come to the school! The first day of school, parents may walk their child to class. After this, we ask parents to say goodbye at the front door. There will be staff available to help all students find his/her classroom. All visitors to our building must check in and out through the front office with a current driver’s license or other form of picture identification. Parents are always welcome at school, but security is a top priority.
All parents must complete a volunteer application on-line before volunteering at the school or chaperoning field trips.
This application process must be completed each and every year. Please go to www.conroeisd.net, click on the Parent/Student tab, and then click on the Volunteer in CISD tab, or click on the link below.
Please note that visitors are not allowed to interrupt the classroom during instructional time unless prior arrangements have been made with the teacher.
SCHOOL HOURS/ATTENDANCE/TARDIES
*Please note that parents MUST come into the front office to sign their child in if they arrive after 7:55 am.
School hours are 7:55 a.m. - 3:10 p.m. Students must be in their classroom before the 7:55 a.m. bell rings, or they will be considered tardy. Please note that 7:30 a.m. is the earliest time that your child may be dropped off. We do not have staff available to supervise students until that time.
Attendance is vitally important to your child’s current educational growth and future development. Research confirms that attendance is one of the greatest factors contributing to student achievement. Please note that if your child comes in after 9:00 a.m., it will count as an absence unless your child has a medical appointment and brings in a school excuse from the doctor.
Tardy Policy
A student is tardy if not in the classroom at 7:55 a.m. If your child is tardy, parents must sign him/her in at the front office. When a student is tardy, an e-mail will be sent to the student’s guardian for notification.
BREAKFAST/LUNCH
Parents are encouraged to prepay for their child’s meals at www.myschoolbucks.com. Please allow up to 48 hours for payments to be applied to students’ accounts.
Breakfast is served here at David Elementary from 7:30 - 7:55 am. The price of breakfast is $2.00. The lunch price for regular student lunch is $3.20, and al a carte prices vary.
Please visit: http://www.conroeisd.net/department/child-nutrition/ for menu options and more information.
If sending in cash or checks, please place in an envelope and include the child’s name, ID number and grade to ensure crediting to the proper account. Checks should be made payable to CISD Child Nutrition and include Driver’s License # and Date of Birth.
Free/Reduced Lunch
If you are interested in applying for free or reduced meals, you must complete an application at www.myschoolapps.com. All students who would like to purchase breakfast or lunch, and do NOT qualify for the free/reduced meal program, must pay for meals.
TRANSPORTATION
Students come to school and return home by either bike riding/walking, daycare van, bus, or car. Children are dismissed in that order. Changes in the normal dismissal should be made in writing.
BUS INFORMATION
To register for bus service, locate bus numbers, stops, and times, please visit the Transportation section of the CISD website: https://www.conroeisd.net/transportation/. Students who live less than one mile from the school will not be eligible for bus transportation to and from school.
CAR LINE
Shadowbend Place and the car line are very busy during morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. Parents, please do not drop off or pick up your children on Shadowbend Place. We have had several near misses as children are dropped off or picked up on this very busy street. If your child is a car rider, please drop them off or pick them up in the car line on the front porch. Please be sure to put your sign in the front car window for pickup. If your child is a walker, please utilize our crossing guards.
We realize that there are circumstances where you may need to park and walk in with your child. During drop-off and pick-up times, please use the general parking area (not the spaces directly in front of the school) so that both parents and students do not have to cross through the car line.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES
Changes in transportation should be made in writing by the parent and sent to the teacher. We understand that an occasion may arise when it is necessary to make a last minute transportation change. These last minute changes should be reserved for emergency situations only. If you do need to call, please do so by 2:00 p.m. so that we can deliver these changes before the end of the day.
RAINY DAY DISMISSAL
A “Rainy Day Dismissal” occurs when we have severe weather determined by Administration. Please note that we normally do not determine this until the last few minutes of the day. If a “Rainy Day Dismissal” occurs, biking and walking are not allowed. If you choose to walk up to the school to pick up your student during a "rainy day dismissal," you must pick up your student at the grade level exits located on the east and west sides of the building. Parents of ALL grade level students must have their pick up signs with them during a "rainy day dismissal". Please be aware that if your child is not eligible for bus transportation as noted above, you will need to make prior arrangements for rainy day dismissal transportation.
Please click below for our "Rainy Day Dismissal" FAQs.

- Use of cell phones and smartwatches may be permitted in extenuating circumstances with permission from a staff member.
SAFETY DRILLS
Safety at David Elementary is our top priority. Throughout the year, we are required to hold several drills. Within the classrooms, teachers will briefly talk about these drills.
These drills include the following:
Hold – A hold is used when the hallways need to be kept clear of occupants. Students are trained to clear the hallways and remain in their classroom and do business as usual.
Secure – A secure is used when a threat is outside the building. Students and staff must return into the building and do business as usual.
Lockdown – A lockdown is used when a person or threat is in or on the grounds of the campus. There are no class changes and everyone is to remain in their classrooms. All doors, windows, and classrooms are locked.
Evacuate – This procedure is used when the students and staff need to leave campus for a variety of hazards. This procedure is also used when the students practice a Fire Drill.
Shelter – When in the presence of a hazard to health and safety of the people inside and outside the building, students and staff will Shelter in Place. All windows and doors are locked. This procedure is also used when the school is being threatened by weather. All persons in the building are sheltered away from glass and high ceilings.
If you have any questions or concerns about safety, please call Assistant Principal, Veronica Kiesz, at (281) 298-4707.
