HCSS Central Office
Superintendent Michael C. Ryans has been recognized as the District 7 Superintendent of the Year for his exceptional leadership and dedication to students and staff. Known for his hands-on approach, Ryans prioritizes attending school events and ensuring students feel supported, often reminding them, “If no one has told you, I love you.” His extensive career spans roles as a teacher, principal, Federal Programs Director, and now superintendent, during which he has overseen significant district achievements, including infrastructure upgrades, academic improvements, and a 90% graduation rate. This award celebrates his unwavering commitment to excellence and his community.

HCSS Advances Facilities with Ongoing Construction Projects
Hale County School System (HCSS) is making significant strides in facility upgrades through several ongoing construction projects. The track at Greensboro High School (GHS) is undergoing a complete renovation, ensuring enhanced functionality and safety for athletes and the community. Additionally, Hale County College and Career Academy (HCCCA) is expanding its capabilities with the addition of new welding and Modern Manufacturing shops, providing students with advanced opportunities for hands-on learning and skill development. These projects reflect HCSS's commitment to fostering excellence in academics, athletics, and career readiness.
HCSS Welcomes Newly Elected Board Members
The Hale County School System (HCSS) is pleased to welcome Mr. Chad Payne and Mr. Ray Grantham as the newest members of the Board of Education. Both were recently elected and officially sworn in by Judge Tim Evans. Their leadership and dedication will contribute to the district’s ongoing efforts to provide exceptional educational opportunities for all students.

Greensboro Middle School
Mrs. Courtney Cole-Randall received the 2024 Nick’s Kids Foundation Teacher of Excellence Award. The award luncheon was held at the Tuscaloosa River Market. The keynote address was delivered by Coach Nick Saban and Mrs. Terry Saban. All of the award recipients received a $500 gift card, tickets to a home Crimson Tide football game, and an official photo-op with Mrs. Terry. Congratulations Mrs. Randall! Congratulations to Andreanna Jones for winning First Place in the Farm City Week Poster Contest Division 2. Andreanna creatively showcased ways our community counts on farmers. The Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals recently awarded Principal Tony Sanders of Greensboro Middle School the 2024 - 2025 Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year. This is the second time Principal Sanders has won the award making him only the second principal to do so. Under Principal Sanders's leadership, coupled with the work of a dedicated faculty and staff, Greensboro Middle School went up 10 points in one year on the Alabama A - F Report Card going from a 68 D to a 78 C. In addition, Principal Sanders has played a major part in securing grants totaling over $400,000 to bolster a robust STEM program at Greensboro Middle School. Greensboro Middle School has partnered with The University of Alabama, The Blackbelt Community Foundation, The University of West Alabama, The Alabama Transportation Institute, and RAISE STEM Ecosystem.
In addition to the day-to-day leadership provided to Greensboro Middle School, Principal Sanders is very active on the state level. Principal Sanders currently serves on the CLAS Executive Committee, CLAS Board of Directors, Alabama Principals Leadership Development Act Design Team, Governor Ivey's AI Summit, Alabama Council of Leadership Development, AEA Education Policy and Professional Practice Commission, and the AEA Inaugural Leadership Cohort. Principal Sanders is also entering into the professional learning space having presented at the AEA Minority Leadership Training Conference twice, the CLAS AASSP AAMSP Fall Conference, and will be speaking at the Alabama Community College System HRMA Conference in February 2025.

On December 3, 2024, Hale County High School celebrated a historic moment by retiring jersey #2 from the varsity boys' basketball team. The special ceremony honored the legacy and contributions of a remarkable player whose dedication and talent left an unforgettable mark on the program. Family, friends, teammates, and fans gathered to witness this proud milestone, reflecting on unforgettable memories and a legacy that will inspire future generations of Wildcats.
Greensboro High School
Our librarian, Freda Braxton, awarded prizes to the winners of the book literacy competition. As part of the "Building Bridges Through Books" initiative, two of our seniors were recognized for reading three novels. Additionally, Angel Ash, a former Valedictorian and current UWA student, spoke to our seniors about preparing for the transition to college.
During American Education Week, our parent facilitator showed appreciation for our teachers, while the LABORS organization generously presented staff with a cake in recognition of their hard work.
The GHS girls' basketball team attended a game at UA to support one of our former students currently playing for Troy.
