Winter Social-Emotional Well-Being Surveys
On Thursday, January 16th, RBV students stated taking our tri-annual Social-Emotional Well-Being surveys. By participating in the Intellispark surveys, our students are not just sharing their feelings about engaging, connecting, and belonging at The Ranch but also playing a crucial role in shaping our school environment. These online surveys will be conducted in their classrooms three times a year (e.g., fall, winter, and spring).
Below is more information:
Multiple-choice survey questions help educators understand their students' interests, goals, and preferences, including their adult and peer relationships and their sense of school engagement, support, and belonging.
This data was designed to provide school-level information on key indicators that align with the California Healthy Kids Survey. The belonging, connection, and engagement surveys have been designed to provide information on key indicators that align with the CHKS and are specific to connectedness.
A student, the current teachers who have that student, and anyone at the site with “Administrative Access” (e.g., counselors) may see the student profile and their responses to survey questions. Teachers who do not currently teach the student do not have access to student information.
When a student's response indicates a low score to questions about their social-emotional well-being, our RBV administration, counselors, and teachers are ready to step in. This is a protocol and testament to our commitment to every student's well-being. We will follow up three times a year when the survey is administered.
Vista Unified School District has a contract with Intellispark. This includes legal agreements in which Intellispark may not interact with or send/sell any student's data to any other entity, including sending data to parents or family members.
If you have any questions, please contact the school. If you do not want your student to participate in this survey, please complete this Opt-Out Form.

Mid Season Sports Update
Girls Soccer
Girls Soccer has started the season with 5 wins, no losses, and two ties. We placed 3rd in the Best of the West tourney (did not advance to the final after losing a PK shootout). The girls are playing well with lots of energy and hustle, but there is still work to do in preparation for a very demanding league season. The hunger and focus of the returning players has been a huge element of picking up where we left off after last season, with captains Hailey Ahmed, Maggie Elliott, and Amanda Myers doing a great job of leading vocally and by example. It has also been really encouraging how the new varsity players have embraced the pressure of playing in big games against solid opponents. We have two games this week before starting Coastal League play next week at Carlsbad on Wednesday night.
Boys Basketball
Boys Basketball is currently 10-7 overall and is currently ranked in the top 15 in San Diego County. We put together our toughest non-league schedule in over 10 years in hopes to be prepared for a tough league schedule and CIF playoffs. CJ Aldrich leads us in almost every statistical category and is also the leading scorer in San Diego with a 31.4ppg average. We have played 4 of the top ten teams in the county as well as some of the top teams in the state and region with mixed results. We have been plagued with injuries throughout the pre-season, most notably losing Ayden Horn to a broken foot in our very first game of the season. That said, we will have a much needed week of practice and an opportunity for everyone to get healthy before we head into league play with a home opener on January 15 against La Costa Canyon at 7pm.
Girls Basketball
Girls Basketball is currently 11-6, ranked 13 in San Diego heading into league play. There is much to be proud of at the midway point of the season. A third place finish in the Longhorn Classic, a tournament championship in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic, and an incredible showing in the National Sabrina Ionescu Classic! We have taken pride in playing a highly competitive schedule, having battled two of the top 5 teams in San Diego, two top 20 teams in the state, and the number 4 team from the state of Oregon. Our players and staff are taking incredible pride in these matchups as we feel it is necessary to prepare for a run in the Division 1 playoffs. We open up league play at home January 15th vs. La Costa Canyon at 5:30 PM.
Boys Soccer
Boys Soccer has had an impressive start to perhaps their toughest schedule in almost 10 years. Despite disappointing results in our first two games, your Longhorns showed their resilience and went on an 8-game unbeaten streak, including capturing the Championship trophy from the SoCal High School Classic over the winter break! In a season which we knew would consist of trials and tests of character, our unbeaten streak came to an end in a dramatic late loss to a consistent Open Division contender. However, with the message of the season being about the journey to the finish line, the boys bounced back to grab a win the next night and are currently 7-3-2 (win-loss-draw), ranked #5 in San Diego County, having scored 27 Goals, and pushing for an Open Division playoff spot! Your Longhorns will face off against a local rival Mission Vista tonight, Friday, to defend the Melrose Cup title! With the Coastal League play kicking off next week, the competition doesn’t get any easier (all teams competing in Division 1), as we open at home versus La Costa Canyon on Wednesday, and travel to Oceanside on Friday. Hook em!
Boys Wrestling
The Longhorns boys wrestling team secured a close first-division win against Oceanside. A large and enthusiastic crowd cheered on the Longhorns from the stands. The team now enters a bye week for rest and preparation for our second divisional dual at Carlsbad on January 23rd.
Girls Wrestling
Our girls wrestling season has been amazing. The girls have been working very hard in the room and it has shown in our tournaments. We have had girls place at every tournament we have attended. We had freshman Isabella Tamayo win her first medal at our Santa Ana JV tournament, “Izzy” has shown such hard work and it has been paying off at tournaments with her strength and dedication she is going to continue to grow and win more matches.
We also had Tayla Perez win her first medal at the ‘Girl on Fire’ tournament. Tayla really took in what she has learned at practice and was able to fight at this tournament to earn her 5th place medal. We are so proud of her hard work. Our Freshman Faith Anaya has shown her amazing talent and strength Faith has placed at every tournament she has been to. She has 1st, 2nd , and 3rd place medals to show all her hard work. Faith is definitely a force to reckon with. I cannot wait to see her achieve more in her wrestling career. Our Junior Jazmin Gomez has been working so hard and is such an amazing leader everyday at practice. Jazmin is giving it her all at practice and I can always count on her to take the lead in showing the girls what they need to do and work on. Jazmin has also won a medal this season and that will not be the last. The whole team has been working hard this season and their hard work has been seen on the mat. As the season goes on the girls will continue to work hard and showing their progress on it matches.
Girls Water Polo
The RBV Girls Water Polo program has had a promising start to our 2024/2025 season. We lost a significant amount of our starting group from our previous season, but gained an optimistic number of freshmen. This required a significant amount of team bonding both in and out of the pool to mesh our existing and new players. RBV also added three new coaches to add support for our girls. With an entirely new dynamic, we have had a lot of catching up to do. We have started our season 8-1, and only took our first loss in January.

Sport Request Form
Are you looking for a sport but do not see it on our website? The form below is to request the school to look into offering new CIF sports on campus.
Sport Request
Dear RBV Families and Community,
We’re excited to announce a new initiative to strengthen collaboration and dialogue between our students, families, and athletic program. Beginning this school year, we’re introducing a Sport Request Form designed to give students and community members the opportunity to express interest in adding new sports to our school’s athletic offerings. This form allows us to gather valuable insights, gauge interest, and better understand the needs and wishes of our community when it comes to expanding athletic opportunities.
While we are committed to exploring each request thoughtfully, please know that there are various factors that affect our ability to implement new sports, including resources, staffing, and facility availability. Even so, your input is essential as it helps us make informed decisions and better align our programs with the interests and passions of our students.
The Sport Request Form is available on our website at www.rbvathletics.com, and we welcome submissions throughout the year.
Thank you for being an essential part of our school community and for helping us continue to foster a dynamic and inclusive athletic environment for our students.
We are seeing an increase in students riding electric bikes to school. We have a new parking area for the bikes and students have been doing great with using our new procedures. We have a few resources to share regarding bike safety as well as a link to the required bike safety course students must attend to obtain a parking permit for their bikes.
Online safety course is being developed to support our students safety.
