No School on Monday
May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
During the month of May, we encourage all of our students, staff and families to show support for mental health by wearing the color green on every Monday throughout the month. Green is the official color for mental health awareness as green represents renewal, hope, and vitality. To be seen in green, whether a complete outfit or just a touch of green, sends a message of advocacy and support for the importance of mental health.
And also this:
As we work to prioritize our mental health, here is a calendar of daily wellness activities for the month of May.
Upton Spring Carnival
We are still in need of volunteers for our spring carnival. The event is Friday, June 7 from 5:30-8pm. Volunteers shifts run for an hour and a half.
Would you be willing to help our PTA run this event? If you are willing, please sign up to help!
This is a GREAT opportunity to have older siblings help (games are very easy to run) or even a special relative join this fun celebration. Thank you so much for your consideration! We hope to see you there!

Save the Date- 5th Grade Awards Ceremony
Please mark your calendar for our 5th grade Awards Ceremony on June 12, at 9:30 a.m. This event will take place at Upton. We will be providing more details soon!
Attention 5th Grade Families!
This week, 5th graders will begin putting together memory books in writing class. This is a special tradition for 5th graders that really provides a beautiful and meaningful keepsake to honor their 5th grade year as well as their time in elementary school. In order to make this memory book extra special, the 5th grade teachers are asking that parents/guardians write their child a letter reflecting on their lives so far.
**PLEASE KEEP THIS A SECRET FROM YOUR CHILD**
Some ideas to think about while you're writing: write what you love about them, what you're most proud of them for, advice for the years ahead, and/or memories of their time in elementary school. Letters from parents/guardians will be due on Monday, June 3, in order to provide enough time to put everything together.
You may either type your letter and email it to "laura.foss@royaloakschools.org" or you may hand write your letter (a wonderful option for the kids to have your handwriting), and send it to school in an envelope titled "End of Year" and your child's name on the front.
Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions about the memory book letters!
