Hello BFMS Families!
What a fast but great start to the 2024-2025 school year! Students have already started to settle into their classes and are in the process of building strong relationships with their teachers and peers. This is the best and most important part of the school year—getting to know one another and creating bonds that will last at least a year and, for many, a lifetime. It’s great to see all of our students happy and energetic about the year ahead!
It was brought to my attention this week by our district tech coordinators that not all families were transferred over to our new SchoolMessenger system in late July when we had an update to the PowerSchool user interface. We apologize that we weren’t aware of this until now, and, therefore, many of you never received our welcome-back newsletter in August. I really wish I had been aware so we could’ve corrected it, but nonetheless, I am attaching the link for that newsletter here for everyone to review. There are many important documents attached to it, like our student handbook, bell schedule, district calendar, and a list of the many new faces and changes in staff. Please take the time to look everything over and let us know if you have any questions.
We look forward to our partnership this year as we continue to give our students all that we can to help them succeed in their academic endeavors.
Best wishes this school year,
The BFMS Administrative team

Cat Seltzer- Assistant Principal

Nurse Kassie:
Welcome back Friends!
I am Nurse Kassie! I am starting my 2nd full year here, but I started March 2023! It is so fun to see so many happy new faces!
Please reach out to me if you have not yet about your student's medical needs. I need a copy of physicals and immunizations. Remember to have a student's dress in layers! It is cold in the morning, and sweltering by the end of the day. Please remind students to pack water bottles! Dehydration is one of the largest reasons for visits to my office!
COVID is already going around! We no longer isolate for 5 days, however if your student is sick, please let them stay home. Covid is now being assessed as a respiratory illness, like flu. Anyone with COVID, needs to be fever- and vomit-free for 24 hours, and other symptoms improving in order to come back to school.
Please see the following poster to know when to keep a student home.
We are ready for a new year!

Welcome to the 7th grade!
We are a dynamic and enthusiastic team of educators, each bringing our unique experiences and passions to the classroom. Our goal is to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. We look forward to getting to know our students and working together to make this a memorable and successful year.
Mr. Gardner
I’m a fifth-year social studies teacher, returning from a backpacking trip abroad and happy to be back to teaching!
Ms. Wade
I’m excited to be returning to teaching 7th grade science. I’m planning to bring coding and making opportunities from my STEAM teaching experience.
Mrs. Megan
I’m so happy to be on the fourth floor with the best team and class in the building. This year is all about growing and trying new things in reading, writing, and language arts.
Mrs. Sierra
I am new to teaching in a traditional classroom and will be the math teacher this year. I am excited about our new math curriculum, Illustrative Math. I'm also looking forward to fundraising and field trips this year.
6th Grade Team
Welcome, 6th graders and families!
We, the 6th grade team, are so excited to meet all of you and begin what will be an epic year. We work hard to ensure that our team members have similar expectations in terms of behavior, work quality, and experiences, so students can feel assured that they are receiving a cohesive program. Our team is committed to partnering with our community to ensure growth and inspire lifelong learning for each and every student. Our goal is “to engage, educate, and prepare all students to become self-directed learners and creative problem solvers.” We accomplish this by focusing on developing community, perseverance, kindness, cooperation, grit, and safety. We look forward to celebrating the students’ academic achievements, engaging them in opportunities to learn, and supporting their social-emotional learning and development.

5th Grade Team
ELA
Mrs. Chamberlin
I have had a wonderful time getting to know all of the fifth graders. As a 5th-grade group, we have been working together on team-building skills. In my ELA class, we are continuing to develop these same skills. Our district has implemented a new ELA curriculum, and we will begin that next week. Our first unit focuses on human rights, specifically concentrating on the book Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan.
Science/Social Studies
Mrs. Redding
It has been so great getting to know all of our new 5th graders! We have been focusing on adjusting to BFMS, establishing norms, and building community. I look forward to diving into science, social studies, Makerspace, and outdoor learning.
Math
Ms. Tristan
Hello, 5th-grade families! I am Ms. Tristan, and I am excited to be your child's math teacher this year! We have started the year off with community-building games, exercises, and activities. As we get to know each other, we will use these skills to build a safe and respectful environment that promotes learning. In the coming weeks, we will be discussing, "Why Math?"—a question I am always answering! We will talk about what math means to us, how we learn best, and strategies that help us succeed. I am excited to start our first unit on volume in another week or two. We will incorporate art and hands-on activities to make our learning not only fun but accessible to all our diverse learners!
UA Team
Greetings from the UA team!
Mrs. J (Art)
Mrs. Boles (6-8th Music/Choir)
Ms. Lair (Librarian/Media Specialist)
Mr. Chesley (Health)
Mr. Rumrill (Band Director/5th grade music)
Mr. James (Gym)
We’re so excited to start the 24-25 school year off strong and are looking forward to a great year. A few changes to note about this year's schedule are that Health, Music, and Art are now year-round. Students will have Art/Music and Gym/Health every other day! Also, choir and band now run every other morning from 8:00-8:40. Students in band and choir are encouraged to come directly to their ensemble locations as soon as they arrive at school. If your child is still interested,
contact one of the music directors.
