Wilder School District October 2022
Fall is Officially Here!
We have all settled into the school year and as the weather changes, we are reminded it is autumn. Out here in Wilder, it is truly the harvest season. The hop fields are stripped and onions are loaded onto trucks. The smell of the freshly churned earth permeates the crisp air as potatoes are pulled before daybreak. The changing light and fall colors spark creativity. As our students plunge into their schoolwork, we are focusing on cultivating a creative environment for them.
Check out this video from the Wilder Animation Studio about hops in Wilder. It is a few years old, but it highlights the season and the skills our students are learning in the Animation Studio.
How do you spark creativity at home? Are your students energized by the new season? Reach out to us and let us know!
Introducing Our Front Office Gals!
Meet Ms. Cortez
Ms. Cortez graduated from Wilder High School many years ago. She is happy to be back working as an Administrative Assistant for the Middle/High School. She loves to hang out with her three beautiful kids in her free time. One of their favorite activities is dressing up and having dance-offs.
Meet Ms. Golden
Ms. Golden grew up in Northern Nevada and has considered Idaho her home since 1999. She joined the Wilder School District in February of 2022 after spending 25 years in the travel industry and loves seeing all the smiling faces every morning. She enjoys canning and is an amateur billiards player in her spare time, having had the opportunity to compete in state, national, and world championships. She is greatly enjoying getting to explore Wilder and the surrounding towns that make up our wonderful community.
Wilder Elementary School
Dear Wilder Elementary Parents,
We have some exciting partnerships taking place here at the Elementary! First and foremost, our partnership with you, parents, is the most important. Thank you for the great turnout at Parent-Teacher Conferences! - Dr. Zamora
YMCA After School Program
This new program for the elementary school launches around November 1st!
The program will be right after school (including starting at 1 pm on Wednesday), until 6 pm. This program can be subsidized, for those who qualify, through ICCP or directly through the Y's financial assistance program. In October, the full-time YMCA staff member dedicated to Wilder will start, and we can direct questions to her.

A Note From High School English Teacher, Greg Shoemaker:
Our Wilder High School Broadcasting class has two podcasts up and running! One group, led by William Baustida, has been recording about once a week on random topics of interest. For example, favorite foods. Another group, led by Molly Bagley and Jayden Hammon, has been putting together a podcast where the students involved in the project debate various topics and share opposing viewpoints. Both groups have been exploring different ways of recording audio using their iPads and experimenting with our new lapel mics. Students are also researching possible opportunities for releasing their podcasts out into the community.
Athletics
High School Volleyball 7-5 (overall) 5-2 (conference)
This season has been nothing short of exciting!! The Volleyball Girls have had their best season in over a decade and currently sit in 3rd place in the conference with high hopes for a high seed in the district tournament and a state playoff berth. With only a few conference games remaining the girls are ready to prove something this year.
10/3 at Notus
10/4 vs Idaho City
10/7 vs Rimrock (Senior Night)
Middle School Volleyball is 3-4
Another solid season in the books for the MS VB girls. They came up just short of the tournament but showed a lot of improvements and worked through much adversity to pull off a successful season.
High School Football: 0-5
The football team has had a rough start to the year no doubt. We have dealt with a number of injuries and adversity this year but the boys put in hard work every day and hope to turn the season around. There is still a chance for a state playoff birth if the Wildcats can win out the rest of the conference games.
10/6 at Greenleaf(Conf)
10/13 at Cascade
10/21 vs Idaho City (Senior Night) (Conf)
Middle School football 2-2
MS Football is looking very good this year, with several good performances. In the 2 losses both were close games, the Wildcats had their chances to win and came up a little short. But they continue to improve each week and are looking forward to the second half of the season.
Spotlight on Wilder's Cheer Team
Coach Crow is so proud of the growth the cheer team has made over the last year. To quote team captain Kaylee Walker, “We are a legit cheer team now.”
This summer, six cheerleaders attended a UCA cheerleading camp hosted here at WHS. The team learned stunting routines, jumps, four new cheers, a crowd chant dance, and a full dance routine. The cheerleaders came to school amped to begin a new season with new spirit, stronger commitment, and “athlete mentality.” The team has grown to fifteen athletes filled with Wilder Pride. They have poured their energy into planning an amazing Homecoming week, Neon Night, and are working on Pink Out for the final home game of the season on October 21st. At Pink Out, the team will be debuting their stunting skills and honoring the seniors for their last football game at Wilder High School.
P.S. Be sure to catch the team stunting, dancing, and cheering in their new uniforms this basketball season, which tips off in November!
Idaho Future Ready Academy
Dear IFRA parents,
Over the past few weeks, I have heard several teachers note how well students are doing as they persisted through the start of the school year. Kudos to the students and the parents for embodying the Habits of Mind characteristics of Persisting and Thinking Flexibly.
We at Idaho Future Ready Academy are also thinking flexibly to support you, our pioneers of mastery-based K-12 online education. Here are some awesome updates:
- Ms. Moreland has joined the team as our School Engagement Specialist. When you call the school, she will be answering your calls. In addition to supporting new families through orientation, she will help answer your questions throughout the school year when you dial the school, plus she'll plan our events!
- We will have picture day on October 14 from 11 am - 1 pm at the Nampa Library.
- Our first IFRA social event will be on October 21 at Farmstead. More details will come through your advisor.
- IFRA is planning to rotate off-campus support labs throughout the Treasure Valley, giving you an opportunity to meet with your teachers outside of Google Meets. More details will come through your advisor.
This continues to be an exciting year! Thank you for all you do to support our IFRA students!
- Dr. Zamora
