π Message from the Principal π
It's Progress Report week, which means they come out this Friday!! This is the last grade report until the final report card. Following this report card, counselors will be contacting 7th graders who earned a D/F to attend summer school, including 7th graders who failed classes Semester 1. As indicated throughout the school year, 7th graders must pass all 7th and 8th grade classes to participate in the promotion ceremony at the end of 8th grade year. It is extremely important that 7th graders who fail this year, take advantage of summer school opportunities. I can't stress that enough!
Simultaneously, counselors will be contacting 8th graders who earned a D/F to remind them that they must end the semester with a D or higher or else they will not be able to participate in the promotion ceremony on June 5th. There will be no opportunity for 8th graders to attend summer school to make up Semester 2 classes. In addition, besides English 8 starting Monday, April 15th, there will be no more opportunities for credit recovery for Semester 1 classes. All 8th graders were given ample opportunities this semester to recover credits failed from last semester. This is a friendly reminder that there will be no exceptions...if you don't pass all 12 classes this year, you are not walking in Promotion.
Having said that, it's not too late for some of you! Speak with your teachers and find out what you need to do to get back on track! As you have seen me mention over and over again, DO NOT wait until the last minute because it will be too late!
Let's make it a great week, Vikings!
π Friday Night Lights π
This past Friday, for the first time in MVA history, our flag football teams battled it out in the first annual Junior Bell game vs. Southwest Middle. The Bell Game is a longtime rivalry between Mar Vista High and Southwest High, so this event was an ode to that! Our girls team were up first and played hard, but fell short to Southwest Middle's girls team. Next up, our boys team hit the field and held SOM's team from scoring the entire game, winning 35-0 and the first ever Bell trophy!! It was a fun community event that included performances from both cheer teams and the Mar Vista High band even came to play with our band! The energy was infectious and a good time was had by all! Shout out to Mrs. Portaro for coordinating this fun event! We are already looking forward to next year! π€
π£ Congrats to MVA Cheer π£
On Saturday, our MVA Cheer Squad traveled to Knott's Berry Farm for the Sharp State Cheer Championship for middle schools. They have been working hard all year to finetune their routine and it paid off as they earned 2nd place in the tournament! Great job, ladies!! Congratulations!! Thank you to Coach Nyah and Coach T for your hard work in making that happen!
Advisory iPad Challenge
Starting Monday, April 15th, we will have an iPad challenge in all Advisory classes! The Advisory with the most charged iPads will earn 15 5-star points each day that week! The advisory with the MOST points by the end of the week will win donuts for your entire class! All you have to do is bring your CHARGED IPAD each day! Are you up for the challenge?
