April Newsletter Memorial School
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Happy Spring Memorial Families!
As we are beginning Quarter 4 and beginning our State Testing season, it is crucial your child/children come to school on time and are here everyday. Hopefully we will start to see some consistently nice weather very soon! With spring, also comes restless behavior from some students. Please speak to your children about being on their very best behavior at school and following directions at all times from their teachers and other adults in the building.
Please also make sure your children continue to come to school daily and come on time. We are in the middle of state testing and it's important that students are on time each day. Please also ensure they go to bed early and eat breakfast at home or get to school by 7:10 a.m. to eat breakfast at school.
Thank you for being the best parents in CMSD and for always supporting us in and out of the classroom!

For the month of March, the incentive was Movie & Ice Cream. Scholars need to earn 12 Memorial bucks! They can also spend their Memorial dollars in the store on different items! Scholars earn their Memorial bucks by displaying respect, and responsibility, and being ready to learn in their classrooms, hallways, bathroom, cafeteria, outside areas, buses, offices or clinics, computer labs, or at arrival and dismissal.
Families, you can support this initiative by discussing positive behaviors and what respect looks like and sounds like with your child/children.

March has been an interesting month reading Folktales, Legends, Tall Tales and Fables. We read about a girl who was, “Larger than life!.” We read about an old woman who outsmarted the scoundrels whom she was so generous to. The tricks on them. We decided that bad Karma came back to get them for stealing from the old woman. We also read about Natural wonders in nature like the weird rocks that move, and the deepest part of the ocean located at the Mariana Trench. We are looking forward to finishing out the year strong. Please try to get you scholars to school no later than 7:30. It is important with testing coming up in the next 2 weeks that they are in attendance to feel confident. We will be practicing OST tests throughout the next 2 week.
Yours in Education,

MRS. KLINE'S 4TH GRADE NEWS
Hello and Welcome to Spring!!
In 4th grade we are working hard in math multiplying fractions, adding and subtracting mixed numbers and prepping for the OST. An important component of 4th grade math success is having math facts memorized, so please work with your child nightly on their math facts.
Remember students have math homework in their Simple Solutions books Monday through Thursday. It is important they complete the homework, attempting each question to the best of their abilities and utilizing the Help Pages (they begin on pg. 281) when they get stuck. The Simple Solutions lessons allow students to review past skills, practice current skills, and preview skills that will be taught in the future. As such, it is imperative that every question is attempted, and the Help Pages are utilized nightly.
In social studies students are learning about the founding of Ohio and The United States of America. Students will be engaged in reading about, writing about, and discussing the promises of our country at its founding. They will also spend some time evaluating if those promises have been met for all Americans. Students will also be learning about the importance of civic engagement to make sure our government is one that is, in the words of the great Abraham Lincoln, “…of the people, by the people and for the people, and shall not perish from this Earth.”
In social-emotional learning mini-lessons each morning, 4th graders will start learning about justice as a character virtue when returning from break. They are going to take time to reflect on how justice is societal and personal. They will also be making connections between justice, determination, respect and responsibility. Recognizing that all the character virtues we study are connected and help each of us build stronger, better communities and relationships, and brighter futures.
All the best,
Mrs. Kline

MS. CROCKER'S & MRS. PARKS' NEWS
Hello Again,
January dragged but March is here. We are in the final stretch. This is when we need to be the most vigilant. The weather is getting warmer, but we all have a job. OUR job is to educate and protect your scholars. YOUR job is to continually make your scholar accountable (grades and behavior). The SCHOLARS’S JOB, is to be reasonable, respectful, and accountable.
We will begin the 4th quarter the week of March 17th. The time to ask how to improve grades is not the week the quarter is ending. Check your child’s grades daily or weekly. If you need help doing this, reach out to Ms. Crocker or me. We usually respond quickly through text, if you email, we need 24 hours to respond. You and your scholar should check PowerSchool/Power Hub, Ed Math, and Ed ELA,
We are doing an extra period of ELA and Math on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We only do Social Studies and Science on Monday and Friday.
The ELA OST will be the Week of April 7th. Our ELA schedule Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday is: Through the Eyes of Animals: Ed Reading lesson, Informative and Persuasive Writing, OST prep, Agenda/Homework, “Drop Everything and Read” ( Your scholar is reading their preferred book for 10 minutes, and Lexia 20 minutes daily. Reminder, if your scholar is absent, they are still responsible for doing 20 minutes of Lexia daily. If your scholar is absent, please check Schoology for the classwork that they missed. Also, check ED for ELA assignments/homework, and digital Simple Solutions for quizzes.
LEXIA DAILY ACHIEVEMENT GOALS: See picture
In Math we just finished Solving Problems using Inequalities, Module 9. When we come back from Spring Break, we are going to be buckling down on OST Prep Questions on the ODE website. You can also have your child practice at home on the ODE website-they know how to get on to practice. We will also focus on Geometry. Please ask your child daily what they learned today in school. If your child misses a day of school, they miss a lot.
In Social Studies, we are learning about Persia’s hierarchy and studying how to read various geographical maps.
In Science, we are studying the moon and parts of the earth.
Important Dates:
· Spring Break: Monday, March 24- Friday, March 28 Return to School Monday, March 31st.
· ELA OST Week of April 7th.
MATH OST Week of April 28, 2025
· Mrs. Parks will be out from April 16-May 18th. Ms. Alexander is the substitute; the scholars know her from last year.
· End of 4th quarter Thursday, May 29th.
