Our Mission: We prepare successful students for a better tomorrow!
From the Principal...
What a wonderful start to the new year! Students are learning and working together in collaborative groups to grow together!
While for the past 9 years at Jackson as an AVID School, our students have worked together collaboratively in partnerships and small groups. This year, we have added a component where they have started practicing how to "Agree or Disagree" in a respectful manner while working together to find a conclusion, summary, or project completion.
Free & Reduced Lunch Application:
In order to continue with our Title I funding, we need all families to fill out the application below. Although students still receive free breakfast & lunch each day, we are asking that ALL families fill out the application, using the link below.
We are using the Titan online Combination FRL/FEDS Combo Meal Application. Here is the link to the meal application and a QR Code is in the attachments:

Parent/Teacher Conferences:
As stated last month, the district has added a fall break to the school calendar on October 14-18, 2024. Students will not attend school during that week. The following week is when we will hold Parent/Teacher Conferences.
All D11 schools were given the opportunity to decide when to hold their conferences. In order to make sure ALL families are able to participate in conferences, the Jackson Staff decided to hold our conferences on:
- October 22, 2024 @ 3:00pm-7:00pm
- October 23, 2024 @ 1:00pm -7:00pm (Students ONLY at school from 7:50-11:50-lunch served at 11:30)
- October 24, 2024 @ 3:00-7:00pm
We will have family activities where all Jackson students can earn a $5 gift certificate to be used at the Book Fair. Look for schedules to come!
Respectfully,
Sara G. Miller

Veteran's Day Bulletin Board
On November 11th, we will be honoring the family members of our students who have or are currently serving in the military.
Please send in photos, along with any information regarding rank and years of service, to first grade teacher, Mrs. Schultz. You can email photos and information, as well, to camla.schultz@d11.org. (Anything sent in will be scanned and printed for the bulletin board and all originals will be returned.) Please label all documents with your child's name and teacher's name to make returns more manageable.
All items need to be sent in no later than October 30th to be displayed on November 1st. Thank you so much for your help to honor those who have or are currently serving! We appreciate their sacrifices!
Attendance
10 Facts About School Attendance
1. Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school.
2. The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk.
3. Absenteeism and its ill effects start early.
4. Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
5. By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
6. Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
7. Students who live in communities with high levels of poverty are four times more likely to be chronically absent than others often for reasons beyond their control, such as unstable housing, unreliable transportation and a lack of access to health care.
8. When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.
9. Attendance improves when schools engage students and parents in positive ways and when schools provide mentors for chronically absent students.
10. Most school districts and states don’t look at all the right data to improve school attendance. They track how many students show up every day and how many are skipping school without an excuse, but not how many are missing so many days in excused and unexcused absence that they are headed off track academically.
Media Moments with Mrs. Sobecki
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Jackson Elementary starting on Monday, October 21st to Friday, October 25th.
On Monday, each classroom will come to the Book Fair Preview, and we will be open to the public from 2:00-3:00. Tuesday, we will be open 7:30-8:30 and for conferences from 2:00-7:00. On Wednesday, we will be open from 7:30-8:30 AM and then for conferences from 12:00-7:00 PM. On Thursday, we will be open 7:30-8:30 and then for conferences from 2:00-7:00.
eWallets will be available this year. On the Book Fair flyer (that will come home with your student) there is a QR code that can be scanned, and money then can be loaded on the eWallet for the student to spend at the book fair. This is a great way for the kids to shop without cash.
We will also have Teacher Wish Bags available for our classrooms. The Wish Bags will be filled with books that the teacher would like for their classroom, and you can purchase one for the teacher if you choose.
During conferences, parents/guardians will have the opportunity to participate in Title 1 Activities in the gym. After the parent/guardian attends and completes the activities in the gym and conferences, each Jackson student will receive a free $5.00 gift certificate to the book fair.
Volunteers are needed to help set up the book fair on Tuesday, Oct 15th at 8:00 AM and to pack it up on Monday, October 28th at 8:00 AM. Please contact Mrs. Sobecki (719-328-5824 or rhonda.sobecki@d11.org ) if you can help.
Kids Collections on Display
I would like to thank Lena W and Ibrahim M for sharing their collections in September and October. We offer the students the opportunity to display their collections from home in the Media Center display case. The kids really enjoy sharing their collections with their classmates and the display case is locked if security is a concern. To sign up call Mrs. Sobecki (328-5824) or send an email to rhonda.sobecki@d11.org . Please help make this a special way to let your child share their interest or hobby at school.
Volunteers Needed in the Media Center
We need help with shelving in the library on a weekly basis. If you can commit a couple hours a week – that would be a huge help. Please contact Mrs. Sobecki (328-5824 or rhonda.sobecki@d11.org ) if you are able to help.
Robotics at Lunch in the Media Center
Our 4th and 5th graders can sign up for Robotics during lunch on Fridays. In October and November, we will be learning how to use Blockly programming to drive Dash and Bolt. This is a fun introduction to robotics!
If you have any questions or if you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me at rhonda.sobecki@d11.org.
Thank you,
Rhonda Sobecki

Free and Reduced Lunch Application
Good Morning,
Another new school year has started again!
We are using the Titan online Combination FRL/FEDS Combo Meal Application as we did last school year. Here is the link to the meal application and a QR Code is in the attachments:
https://linqconnect.com/public/meal-application/new?identifier=JX9G3Q
All students at District 11 schools who serve meals in their cafeteria will eat for free regardless of the eligibility status should a household apply. The State of Colorado provides meals for students who participate in the National School Lunch Program under the Healthy School Meals for All program. Some of the schools/programs not participating with Food and Nutrition Services include Eastlake High School, Community Prep, Spark Online Academy and Homeschool Enrichment. If a school is not listed in the drop down when adding a student, they will not be a participating school.
We have our list of schools from the Colorado Department of Education that are considered Community Eligible Program (CEP) schools or normal operating schools. The important piece here is that ALL households at any school in the “drop down” list in the application process can apply regardless of CDE’s designation of a school. Even though the students are eating their meals for free, other benefits to apply are:
- Possible reduction of fees for programs both within District 11 and outside of District 11
- Qualified students will receive Summer Electronic Benefits (S-EBT) in the summer when school is not in session
- Additional funding for schools and District 11 thereby providing an enhanced educational experience for students
A table detailing CEP and FRL schools is on the Food and Nutrition Services web page in the Healthy School Meals for all section. To reiterate, all households can apply regardless of CEP or non-CEP designations.
You may contact me if you have any further questions.
