Sturgis Elementary Newsletter
End of School 2023
A Note from Principal Chantal Ligtenberg
Summertime Blues:
There is definitely mixed emotions for students and staff as we head into the summer months! Although there is much excitement for the various activities planned, we are all still saddened about not getting to see one other each day. I hope you all enjoy the break and I look forward to seeing you all soon!
Summertime Slide:
Sometimes students can experience a slide in their academics during the off months. Classroom teachers will be providing you with some possible activities your students can do to maintain their academic levels during the break. Just spending time reading a good book will assist students in staying on mark from where they ended the year.
Last Day of School:
May 24th is the last day of school and we will be having a two hour early dismissal on this day (1:05 p.m.).
Lost and Found:
Any items left at the end of the year will be donated. If you would like to peruse our lost and found before the end of the year please do so.
Report Cards:
Report cards will go home on the last day of school. This will have your child’s TENTATIVE teacher for the 23-24 school year. Much effort and time has been put into creating these rosters. Parent input was requested prior to March 15 via the school newsletter. Parent requests for changes of their students’ placement will NOT be an option. Just as every child is unique, every teacher offers an experience that will mold your child into the person they become. All educators at Sturgis Elementary are highly qualified and committed to serving all students.
If eating school lunch with your student, please bring the exact amount - $4.85
There is not change available in the lunchroom.

Summer Meals
Meade School District is not eligible to provide Summer Food Service Program
meals in the summer of 2023.
This is due to a drop in Free/Reduced eligibility percentages in the district over the last several years. For a school to qualify, it must have a free/reduced percentage of 50 percent or be located in a neighborhood that is determined to be needy by census data.
SFSP is one of the many programs and benefits that rely on district families submitting free/reduced applications each year. Applications are open on July 1st for the coming school year. Each family must fill out a new application each school year.
Applications may be found at https://family.titank12.com/Z3D8PQ.
Other Summer Food Service Programs may be found in the area. Please use this link after May 2023 to access the SFSP program finder. https://www.fns.usda.gov/meals4kids.
