Community-Wide Announcements & Reminders
MS1 Grades Closing
MS1 has officially closed and progress reports will be available on PowerSchool at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, 11/14. This interim period allows teachers to finalize grades and students may see some course score changes as the most recent assignments of the reporting period are entered into PowerSchool. Remember, course scores are rolling, and the progress report reflects learning progress up to that date, while final scores will be communicated on transcripts. Students who have enrolled in the Honors Challenge will see a “HP” designation with those courses on MS1 progress reports.
Additionally, at the end of each reporting period (November, January, April), students with off-campus privileges and their parents will be notified of any changes to their status based on academic performance and adherence to the student handbook.

School Highlights
Marine Science Classes Travel to Odiorne Point State Park to Study Invasive Crab Species
On October 24th, students traveled to the intertidal zone at Odiorne Point State Park to collect data on the number of invasive crab species found at the rocky shore. Due to warmer winters, scientists are seeing an increase in the number of invasive crabs in the Gulf of Maine because the crabs are able to survive the less harsh winters, creating new challenges for our native species. Our Souhegan students collected important data on behalf of scientists at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute to contribute to our understanding of the impact these species are having on the ecosystem. This year, students only found two native crabs out of the 30 quadrat sites that were sampled. In addition to the crabs, students also discovered lobsters, shrimp, sea urchins and rock gunnels during their intertidal exploration. The trip was also intended to spark curiosity about other intertidal species; when they return to the rocky shore in the spring, they will collect data to explore their own inquiry questions. Great work by our Souhegan Marine Scientists!

Apply NH Day
Souhegan is participating in Apply NH Day this Tuesday, November 12!
Seniors have the opportunity to:
Apply to NH Colleges and Universities for free (application fee waived)
Be entered into a drawing for a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to one of our students that submits an application with us on Tuesday.
To participate, students have to sign up for a meeting time with us in Student Services, submit an application that day to any college/university, and complete a quick check out in order to be eligible. We will have a counselor and a volunteer from Granite Edvance here to assist students with submitting their applications, and answer questions. If you've been putting off applying or getting started, this is a great motivator to make some progress!
Please stop by Student Services to sign up for a time if you want to participate!
