Start with Hello!
Good evening Beck Community,
School Violence Awareness Week is October 21-25
Starting the third Monday in October, all New Jersey schools observe School Violence Awareness Week. This week promotes the safety of our schools and brings together staff, students, parents, and law enforcement. This week Beck will:
- Share a presentation with students about keeping Beck a safe place
- Reminding students about Digital Citizenship as it relates to bullying and peer conflicts.
- Reviewing safety and security procedures with staff
We are careful in considering how information is presented to students so they understand how we work to make school a safe and secure place but also not cause additional worries.
Part of the student presentation will share information about "Start With Hello." The idea of Start With Hello is encourage and remind students to be inclusive. Anyone can do it - see someone alone, reach out with a smile and simply say "hello."
Digital Citizenship Week was October 14- 18
Students and families need Digital Citizenship resources now more than ever! The digital landscape changes rapidly and these advances impact everyone in both positive and negative ways. It's important to talk as a family about the responsibilities of being a digital citizen, especially as it relates to online behavior, peer conflict and cyberbullying. Middle school is a time when students expand their social engagement dramatically, often times through their digital relationships. They benefit a great deal from family discussions about digital expectations, monitoring of their activity and role-playing. Check out CommonSense Education's digital citizenship resources for family guides, agreements and resources.
All the Best,
