Book Reviews by Mrs. Danielsπ
It's the most wonderful time of the year, and a mother and daughter are enjoying the sights and sounds of the holiday season. The little girl hears sleigh bells ringing and carolers singing. She smells chestnuts roasting - CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH! - and sees the flashing lights of the department store windows - BLING! BLING! BLING! She spreads the spirit of giving wherever she goes. And when she reaches Santa, she tells him her Christmas wish - for peace and love everywhere all the days of the year.
This picture book explores the joys of the holiday season. Illustrated by award-winning artist Frank Morrison. Read your heart out and tell me what you think.

π Staff Spotlight π¦
Specials Teachers - Integrated Arts, Spanish, P.E.
Kate Port - Hi! Iβm Mrs. Port, and I am the Integrated Arts teacher at Beadle Lake. I absolutely love being creative, and I play the piano and the flute (along with a few other instruments you may see me play during class). This is my first year at Beadle Lake and my 6th year teaching in public schools. During the summers, I direct the day camp at Interlochen Center for the Arts which is where I discovered my love for integrating multiple art forms and helping inspire the next generation of artists and art appreciators. I love being at Beadle Lake and am so thankful to be here!
Lesa Kenney - I am the Spanish teacher for Beadle Lake Elementary and am in my 7th year here even though I have been teaching for more than 15 years. I love teaching the students Spanish and enjoy watching their language abilities develop as we use TPRS strategies to engage them with stories that provide students with repetitive simple sentences and phrases, interesting and grade-level appropriate content that is comprehensible to all with lots of high frequency words to build their abilities, retention and confidence (RICH)! I am excited to provide them with experiences like last year's dancing company the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet and our return guest, Edgar RenΓ© to expose them to a whole new world of culture that with their abilities in the language will allow them to enjoy and appreciate these experiences even further.
Morgan Smith - Hello! My name is Morgan Smith, and I am excited to be in my 13th year of teaching at BLE. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with wonderful students and colleagues. Outside of school, I am a proud wife and mom. My husband and I will celebrate our 10th anniversary this June, and together we have two energetic children: Breslyn, 8, and Baylor, 5, along with our dog, Nova.
When Iβm not at school, Iβm a full-time dance mom and taxi driver. Both of my girls are competitive dancers and also play basketball, soccer, and golf. As you can imagine, our family is always on the go! In the summer, we enjoy spending time together on the golf course and relaxing by our pool.
Iβm grateful for the balance between teaching, family life, and all the activities that keep us busy, and I look forward to another great year!
Library and Technology π»
Sara Martin - Hello! My name is Mrs. Martin and this is my 4th year at BLE and 2nd year as the Library and Technology Paraprofessional. I enjoy helping all students to find the love of reading. When I am not at BLE I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 sons. I also enjoy traveling and playing board or card games.
Multilingual Program
Ms. Whitmore and Mrs. Strombeck work with our multilingual students here at Harper Creek!
Hello everyone! My name is Jamie Whitmore. I have worked at Harper Creek for four years now, but I have been a Beaver since Kindergarten. I am an aspiring teacher and am halfway through my graduate program! I like to bowl, read, and hang out with my family and friends in my spare time. I am so glad to be a part of the Beadle Lake Family.
Hello! My name is Karen Strombeck. This is my 17th year teaching(15 in HC and 2 overseas)! I have the privilege of teaching and supporting our DK-12th grade multilingual students at Harper Creek. When I'm away from school, I love spending time with family and friends, reading a good book, and spending time outside!
Happier January with Mrs. Ledbetter π
Greetings BLE Families and Loved Ones!
It's hard to believe 2024 is coming to an end, but I so look forward to continued learning and growth not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and behaviorally as well with your kiddos for the rest of this school year and beyond!
For "Happier January", we are focusing on a positive mindset, and flexible thinking! At school we plan to be intentional about modeling positive self talk, as well as being flexible problem solvers when things do go as planned. We know that each day will have challenges, but by reminding and empowering kiddos of tools in their toolbox to help them cope, they can choose to find good in each day. Some ideas include: making a list of strengths, practicing breathing techniques that help us regulate, rocks and socks squeezing of our hands, self squeezes (hugs up and down our arms), etc. Have fun looking up some ways your family can practice together!
Have a restful, relaxing, amazing break! Can't wait to see you in the new year!

ATTENDANCE IS KEY! WE ARE HAPPY TO SEE YOUR FACE EACH AND EVERY DAY!!
Research shows that there is a clear relationship between regular attendance and higher achievement and engagement in school. Attendance builds lifelong learning habits, which we want to instill in ALL our students. We are implementing a new Reading Curriculum that we are so proud of. It is Amplify CKLA. It is a knowledge building curriculum that is teaching our students about all aspects of the world. It incorporates social studies content areas, science, and history. Each lesson builds on the previous learning. When our students miss lessons, they have holes in their learning and they are unable to make connections across lessons. This curriculum teaches lots of vocabulary, concepts, and includes class discussion. Student dialogue and engagement is essential for learning. For those that have health issues, we have an Amplify Learning HUB and Boost, however it does not take the place of teacher/student interaction.
**Attendance fosters lifelong learning habits. Having consistent attendance instills responsibility, self-discipline, and time management skills valuable for personal and professional growth. Letβs help our students with these life skills!
Behavior Update:
Huge shoutout to 1st grade, who only had 6 behavior referrals in the month of November! We are so proud of them for using their words to problem solve!
Parents, please continue to talk to your kiddos about the importance of communication. We saw the biggest number of November's write ups on the playground due to peer's trying to obtain the attention of other peers in unsafe ways. We recognize it can be hard to wait, take turns, or be told peers don't want to do the activity we want to do... Role playing at home is super helpful, and practicing across several settings is so beneficial for our learning brains! Practice makes progress!
