FEBRUARY 2025
Principal's Message
Greetings Journey Nation,
I’ve enjoyed seeing many students with their cameras on during SOS and homeroom. Remember that their profile picture should be a headshot of themselves. We all enjoy putting faces with names. Knowing who you are is important to all of us at Journey. Please let me know if there are any extenuating circumstances that prevent your student from being able to do this.
We are already more than halfway through Sprint 4. The last day to turn in anything from Sprint 3 will be February 21st, but students shouldn’t wait that long; they should finish Sprint 3 as soon as possible. It’s a lot easier to stay caught up in classes rather than playing catch up.
Thank you so much for continuing to partner with us in the education of your students, it is an honor to serve you all.

February Student Spotlight
Student: Laiah McFee
ES: Summer Knapp
Grade: 11
Laiah McFee has been a Springs student since 6th grade and is thriving in the Journey Homeschool High School Program. Laiah can self-advocate, work independently, and volunteer in her community. According to Laiah’s ES, Summer Knapp, “I have so enjoyed working with Laiah these past few years. Laiah has a million-dollar smile, and she truly brightens every space she enters. She asks good questions, cheers on other students, shares her perspective, and brings levity to every moment and meeting. She is a joy to know and teach. I am so blessed to call her my student, and I am excited to see what her future has in store!”
After chatting with Laiah, she shared what has made her a successful student in the Journey Program. Laiah stated, “Overall, what has made me a successful student in the Journey program is putting my best foot forward in all that I do, even if I get something wrong. I am also honest about what I do and am not embarrassed about getting help and asking questions. Lastly, I also work very hard to make sure that I study to prepare for any test and make deadlines in my schooling, and I am a very hard worker.”
Laiah also belongs to a cohort, and she expressed how this cohort has helped her achieve academic success. Laiah said she is “Honored to be a part of such a supportive, connected Cohort. I go to the Youth Leadership Academy through the Empowerment Center, our Family business. The Empowerment Center helps youth and families discover their best and create happier and healthier living patterns. The Youth Leadership Academy provides me with Mental Health support and a safe place to do my work. I have been able to volunteer and hand out resources to the community. I also get to volunteer and support children overcoming personal life challenges.”
Lastly, Laiah shared that after she graduates, she would like to be a therapist or social worker. She sees how her parents and family give hope to the hopeless and keep their children safe. She is now a certified youth Community Health worker.
The Journey Homeschool High School program is so proud of Laiah and looks forward to seeing her success in the future!
