Care Solace
Finding a provider who will take your insurance and be able to accommodate your schedule can be difficult. Calling one provider after another to find the right one can take hours, days, or weeks. Care Solace is a service available to all WISD families. This service provides representatives who will do all of the calling for you to help you locate a mental or behavioral health provider. If this is something that would benefit your family or member of your household, click here to get started. I understand that life can be overwhelming. If would like me to initiate the process for you, I am one email or call away.
NextStep Therapy
NextStep Community Solutions offers in-school counseling for schools in WISD. MBA's NextStep counselor is Renae Vanriel. Ms. Vanriel comes to our school once a week to see approximately eight students. These students usually continue to see her throughout the year. As space allows, this is provided for students whose families desire counseling for their child but are unable to obtain traditional counseling due to lack of insurance or another situation. If your child is struggling and you don't have insurance and/or have another exceptional situation, please contact me at halverson@wisd.org.
**We currently have a waitlist for students, but please let me know if your student needs to be placed on our waitlist. **
Short term school counseling is provided at WISD for students by parent request, student request, and teacher request. School counseling is usually a one-time visit for processing a situation or to calm down. Individual and group guidance counseling for up to six sessions is also available by parent and teacher request. Parents are also invited to make an appointment to explore options for their child's situation. Please don't hesitate to contact me at any time.
Choose Love
Character Lessons For All
The state of Texas mandates that all Texas public schools have a character program in place (section 29.906). The Choose Love Movement Character Program is being implemented in all WISD elementary schools this year with full implementation occurring next year. During morning meetings, students watch short (two- to five-minute) videos based on the Choose Love formula: courage + gratitude + forgiveness + compassion in action = choosing love. Students will learn about each portion of this formula throughout the school year.
Family Resources
Bag of Snacks- Weekend Snack Program
Unite Ellis coordinates with local churches to bring weekend snack bags to the school for families in need. Students who participate in this program receive a small bag of non-perishable snacks for the weekend. When available, the same students receive snacks for the classroom snack time. If your child is in need of this resource, please contact me.
Clothing Assistance
If your student needs a coat, shoes, or any other clothing needs please contact me. Kiwanis Club of Waxahachie partners with WISD to make sure all students are provided clothing for the school year.
Groceries and More
Park Meadows Baptist Church, in connection with Manna House Outreach of Midlothian, provides free groceries on the last Wednesday of every month at 3 p.m. at Park Meadows (first come, first serve).
The WISD Student in Need fund also provides some assistance where needed. In addition, HelpFinder connects individuals and families to other resources. Click here to begin the search.
