Managing Stress
Students can manage stress in healthy ways, such as by pursuing a new hobby, building a support system, and working on time-management skills. A few techniques that might help students manage stress are relaxation through deep breathing, meditation, or mindfulness. Substance Abuse Prevention programs and strategies can reduce the likelihood of a student’s future substance use and improve their overall mental health and education. Prevention programs accomplish this by reducing underlying causes of risk factors and increasing protective factors.

AWARDS & NEWS
- A SCHNEIDER FAMILY BOOK AWARD HONOR FOR MIDDLE GRADE
I started picking up more Pablo Cartaya books in preparation for our author visit this past month and this might be my favorite one. It was heartfelt novel that explores themes of family, identity, neurodiversity, and community. The story follows Emilia, a Cuban-American girl with ADHD, who struggles with school, friendships, and reconnecting with her father, a Marine veteran dealing with PTSD. As she works on restoring an old car with her dad, Emilia gains confidence and learns to navigate her emotions while also addressing issues of injustice in her community.
Books like these have empowering messages that our students benefit from, helping them see themselves in stories and inspiring them to navigate their own challenges with courage and empathy.
If you like books like Front Desk, Merci Suárez Changes Gears, or Anything But Typical this book is for you! All are available at your library, check out more titles on our shelves with our online catalog.
