VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
TE KURA O HUATOKI. WEEK 4 TERM 1 2019
SCHOOL GOAL: FRIENDSHIPS
Being a good friend, making new friends and being a 'Vogeltowner'.
We can do this by:
By showing my friends I care by being kind and respecting their ideas
By speaking up when one of my friends is not nice to another friend
By showing the school value of Manaaki Tangata – Caring for the people
By allowing new friends to join in with our games
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been another busy week with all the triathlons - whanau and syndicates and today we held the kindy triathlon too. A big thanks to all the parents and caregivers who came along to support and got the bikes to school. A big thanks to Frank Galley from SPUDZ who sponsored the syndicate triathlons with delicious apples for the end of the races.
You will have noticed the front of the senior school is slowly taking new shape with the re-instatement of a new driveway to the hall and today testing of the ground began for the development of the new classroom. Unfortunately this area is out of bounds as testing and finishing is done - however, it will look great once it is all finished and landscaped.
Thanks to all the parents/caregivers who have provided us some feedback through the Satisfaction Survey. There is still time to complete this by next Wednesday - see the link below.
Satisfaction Survey T1 2019
Once compiled, your answers will help provide feedback to the Board of Trustees and our staff about how the school is going with learning and teaching, culture and learning environments. It also asks your preference for the beginning of the year transitions.
Thanks in advance - see link below:
HOME AND SCHOOL - WHANAU FUN FIESTA
We wish to acknowledge many of our sponsors who helped with the night -
Vogeltown Countdown, Turners and Growers, Burger Fuel, Crest Clean, Hellers, Mitre 10 and the wonderful lads who parked the cars on the senior school field.
Our next Home and School meeting is on the 7th April at 7pm in the senior staffroom.
JOIN THE VOGELTOWN BOARD OF TRUSTEES?
If you have never thought about being on the BOT, then now might be the time! It is a great position and an important one to help with the direction and governance decisions of the school.
If you might be keen, please contact Mike Miners, our current Chairperson who would be more than happy to chat with you. Mr Ogle is also available to have a chat.
There is also an NZSTA hui coming up about being on a school BOT if you want to know more - see the details below.

INTERNET SAFETY
However, it is a good time to remind ourselves to be actively involved in our kids internet use and monitoring of their device use. Students may not be actively seeking these types of characters or messages - they can just pop up on devices. Have a chat to your kids about the apps and social media they use. Make sure they report to you if they notice any of these characters or inappropriate contact.

He will performing at Vogeltown School next week on Tuesday at 9.30am. The cost per student is $4, please pay this to the school offices. A notice came home this week about this special event.
The minstrel is an amazing performer and shares some very powerful messages about the ocean, wildlife and especially around our school vision of Manaaki whenua!
See below for a link to a sample of the Minstrel performing.
SENIOR CAMP 2019
The camp payment needs to be in before the camp date (6 March), the cost is $150 per child - subsidised by the Home and School.
Thanks to all the parents who are able to help with camp and stay over. The vetting process has taken some time - especially for those forms that only came in this term. We apologise for the length of time it is taking to get back to some parents about camp, however under the Vulnerable Children's Act legislation and Vogeltown Board policy, we can not take any parents on a school camp who are not Police vetted.
If you want to have a look at how much fun camp is, check out this video Mr Stirling made in 2017 and if you missed the parent evening, here is the powerpoint Mr Ransfield presented:
MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) We have had a lot of kids sick this week with flu and a stomach bug. Please make sure if your kids have had a stomach bug that they do not come back in to school until 24 hours after the bug has passed.
3) We have a school app, which is great for quick access to the calendar, newsletter, digital permission forms and notices. Download the app on google play or from the apple store - look for 'Skool Loop' and select our school. (see advert below)
Thanks whanau
